I'll start. Hopefully 911-Tour can join in. Who? I grew up in Europe, well, ok… The UK. Started driving in a Golf mk1… later a Golf mk3… later loving the shortened shifter on a family 1985 VW Passat. My first “nice car” -- 15 years ago -- was a 2003 Audi A4 Avant in Silver, with Manual. Later a white 2011 “Titanium Package” A4 Avant, then a white 2015 “Black Optic” Q7 TDI Prestige. Audi fanboy. Black Optic fanboy. And, hey.... VAG is clever to put P-car dealers next to the Audi dealer. I always peeked over the fence… enjoying the synergies of the VW/Audi/Porsche family. Why? For my mid-life-crisis birthday almost a year ago, I treated myself to a white 2017 Audi TTS. I loved it. In fact, loved it so much that after only six months and 1,500 miles, I sold it back to the dealer, and ordered a 2018 Audi TT RS (with the spoiler delete). 400 hp, and 3.6 secs for 0-60 became the benchmark. The order was going fine and even ahead of schedule, until the TT RS arrived in Houston – where it sits today, 84 days later. (Affected by a port “Stop Order” for a not-yet-explained engine issue.) With nothing else to do, and every TT RS Youtube video watched x100, I started playing with the Porsche Configurator. Compulsively. Plus, I had to make a decision, and quickly, whether to bail on the TTRS order before the TTRS arrived. What? I was headed to find a poverty spec CPO 911C2/C2S, or GTS… Even came close to buying a CPO GTS. But, it had a spoiler. After an agonizing seven month wait for a “un-spoiled” car, that didn’t sit well… I was talking to my local dealer about allocations for a 911T. But, at #8 on their list, it seemed 1.5 years out. Not wanting a repeat of the wait for the TTRS (longest 7 months of my life, with hourly tracking of progress... including good ol’ “Goodwood” across the Atlantic, etc), I was glad to find a “live” 911T in West Broward, ON THE LOT. Bought it (err... zero discounts). (Someone had ordered the car, but was unable to close the sale.) It just arrived! I had wanted a bare-bones “T”, and was on the fence on RAS, and would likely have ordered without RAS… This car ‘nudged’ me into other options that I wanted badly but would have most likely foregone. I am VERY happy to have LWBS, black/LEDs, GT Leather Interior, red dials… (I could have gone either way on Entry & Drive). And I am ending my streak of white cars, and happy to be back in (GT) silver. (Almost went red, but didn’t want to attract attention.) I would have also deleted the lightweight glass, but I am fine with this build, and keeping with the intended ethos. We (wife and I) will just shout. Also, 370 hp will be more than tempting enough. Somewhat poetically, the original 911T was born in 1967. So was I. Happy 50th. Included specs: PSE, PASM, PSM, PTV, PDLS+, PCM, PVTS, PAssist, POSIP, PED, PSP… And non “P” things like Chrono, Manual 7-spd, LWBS, Bose, and lots of dials and things in Red. But no RAS or sunroof. OK, just messing with you P-fans, here is the actual list of options: Exterior: GT Silver Metallic 090 Carrera T Interior Package 509 Fire Extinguisher 583 Smoking package 625 Porsche Entry & Drive 658 Power Steering Plus 9VL Bose EKL GT Sport Steering Wheel and Manual Gear Lever in Alcantara P11 Full bucket seats QR5 Chrono Package with Porsche Track Precision App U2 GT Silver Metallic XEY LED Headlights in Black incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+) XFG Instrument dials in Guards Red XGN Sport Chrono Clock Dial in Guards Red YI Leather Interior in Black with Carrera T Interior Package, Contrasts in Guards Red MRSP $124,910 http://www.porsche-code.com/PJX2RDB1 PPF on front half. How does it perform? More to follow. I have had limited ‘play time’… so driving impressions will need to follow. Prior to my car arriving, I only had perhaps a 10 min ride in a 2017 Carrera 4S, and 10 mins in a 2015 Carrera S. So, not a lot of seat time to compare the 911T to other 911’s. I do know how well my Audi Quattro TTS did on twisty roads (which was great!), and can only compare to that. For me, I am hoping this 911T is a ‘keeper’. I’ve got 10 years of college bills to pay (starting soon)… So, see you on the other side for that next refresh. Plus -- don’t judge -- but I am honestly hoping this is my last gasoline powered car. A relic (in a nice way). I’ll be looking forward to the introduction of the Audi e-tron (Q6-ish) to replace the Avant… And, use a gasoline powered 911 to get to the winery on Sundays. But, I tell you, there are Cars and Coffee drives around here in PDX with mostly just Tesla’s. Am I sad to have bailed on the Audi TTRS coupe, and its iconic design? Yes. But, I believe the 911’s legendary engineering and timeless shape will prevail in the long run. But, hey, let's see some pictures!! This one was sent from heaven... https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...de790ad2e.jpeg |

Thanks for the thread!
I think many have read my "Rennlister Review" thread listed above, so I won't rehash it here. The Carrera T is my 2nd Porsche (first was a 1995 993 C2) - but I grew up with them (my Dad had a 1973.5 911T, an 1983 911 SC, and currently a 1990 C2) - so the love runs deep. The Carrera T speaks to me in a way that no modern 911 has yet - it has the vibe of the RS America - which is one of my all-time favorites. And now that I've put a good 500+ miles on her, I can say that it lives up to every one of my (very high) expectations. It's simply a wonderful car. And now, I'll offer a tip/trick: I've managed to put a few good nics in the plastic front lip already thanks to road debris on I-10 primarily. I sat down Sunday afternoon to see if I could do anything to clean it up. I remembered that I had some "Forever Black" trim restorer in my bucket of tricks, and so I hit the damaged spots on the bumper with some 150 grit sandpaper -> 400 grit -> 800 grit and then applied the trim restorer dye. It's a perfect match, and if you don't run your finger over the spot, you can't tell it was ever there. I know it's a consumable, but hopefully this helps some folks extend the life of their front lip! Here's the current version of the product... Now lets see some more T's ! cheers! |
Finally settled on my build.. locks next week and delivery late June.

Those are fantastic pictures. Thanks for sharing! |
Yellow side lights? (That's not what the configurator showed!) Ugh. Please direct me to the thread that shows how to swap them out?!?!?

Rats. I only looked at that a dozen times. Can the moderator fix that?

Ugh!! You are killin' me. I'm so on the fence about selling my '17 and getting a T. Donesn't make any financial sense (and I like my Graphite Blue better than the T color options), but the T has all the mechanical options I wanted on my Carrera. And these photos push all the right buttons. Decisions, decisions...

Call me crazy but I like the little splash of color provided by the orange side markers.. Fabulous car! |
