Default Carrera T window tinting

Has anyone had the windows tinted with the lightweight glass? I'm scheduled to have mine done this Friday and just want to confirm it's not an issue. The place I use is very professional just not sure if they have dealt with light weight glass.

Glass is glass so it should not make any difference. And I am sure there are some here that have done it...

I’ve done it, no issues at all but just warn the installer so they get a heads up not to go too rough

I have talked to installers who are leery of the lightweight glass. Does anyone have recommendations on the film?

Any concerns about adding weight to the lightweight glass? 🤪

My installer felt the glass with his hands and knocked on the glass. I asked why and he said that he would be worried if it was plastic/poly carbonate as those would have issues with tint.

if your installer needed any reassurance the windows are actually glass and not plastic.

Oh ok, got it. My installer doesn’t need reassurance. He knew right away it was glass after knocking on it and feeling it. I’m not sure if Porsche's in the past had polycarbonate on some models or maybe someone changed to after market poly “glass”. He does a lot of exotics, so it’s possible that one of those manufactures use poly on some models. For a factory T, no issues.

After further discussion with my installer, he said that the back window of T would require a layer of some material before putting on the tint. Otherwise, if there were to be any issue with the tint and removal was required, he stated the tint would come off in microscopic like pieces. You would be better off replacing the glass if that happened. He seems like a trustworthy person and I don’t feel like he is making up stuff to make more money. So If this layer is not installed, he risk is will the tint ever go bad?

He installs Xpel ceramic tint if that helps and they are one of the top Xpel installers.

If anyone is wondering about the type of quality of this installer, he does high end cars. Today at the shop he had a 992 turbo S, 992 S, Bentley, Mercedes GTS, M3, C8 corvette and some other “regular expensive luxury” cars/suvs.

I didn’t install tint, but just passing the word.

Have them try installing it on an old iPhone. It is the same material. I think you will be fine.

In the opposite direction I had all the tinting removed from my T for better visibility on the track. Zero issues.
