Default 911T - No lite weight glass

I noticed that on the new 911 T they give you the option to NOT get the lite weight side and rear glass.

Is there a disadvantage to the lite weight glass?

A reason not to get it?

TIA

Would it break or chip easier?

Thinner glass is typically less quiet. However, given the level of tire/road noise in these cars, I imagine it would be hard to notice the difference.

Probably just louder than standard glass. I think NOT getting it though is kind of missing part of the package of this car.

Hadnt thought of the possibility of additional road noise.

More noise is a feature of the car.

I would put my bet that it has to do with crash certification. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if you had to re-certify that glass.

No rear wiper with light weight glass. I was disappointed to see that.

Front glass in standard due to safety standards. Minimal noise from rear and sides. Less weight.

Theoretically - easier to break without a hammer but if someone is going to go to that length then you're screwed anyway.

991.2 GTS also has this lightweight rear glass, haven’t heard any complaints from these owners.

Does it? I don’t see that written anywhere, can you post it?

In UK, I see it in spec only for T & GT2RS. If it's in GTS, Porsche doesn't shout about it.

Correct. I was under the impression that only the GT2RS and T have lite weight glass.

Lightweight glass delete is for owners in colder climates. Insufficient strength to support increased snow loads. Got to live down south if you want Lightweight Glass.
