Agreed - not diss'ing your car Matt, as it really is a nice example, but you need to tweak the stance by lowering the rear a bit.

Yes. You have plenty of clearance all around and the lowered stance would not only look good (goes with the GT3 type body-kit) but also lower the center of gravity making it handle better on the track, maybe even shaving a second off your times.

Just out of curiosity what does the 997S usually manage around Taupo?

Well, my driftbox had a problem that day and didn't record any data (probably user initiated), but I had a look at one of my average laps on the GoPro and I timed with my watch 1:50. I wasn't very smooth that day and running out of grip with stuffed road tyres in the front, so I would like to think on a good day that I'd be taking a sec or 2 off that? Matt G has a few more horsies and much better turn in and I think he was in the mid 40's somewhere.

It's actually level - that shot makes the back look high for some reason. Plus it hunkers when I press the pedal!!!

1.48-49 .Makes sense for your home track and its where Id hope to be with the 993 next time out (assumes I can change to 2nd in corners). Right now I doubt there is much more than that in it for me nor the car...

Very impressive given its a stock road car and you don't run R compound tyres. That would put you around 1.17/18s HD and 1.18/19s Manfield? Nice!

Makes me wonder why we are bothering with this 20 year old stuff LOL!

Matt G pulled a best lap at 1.45.14 (very good indeed) but he didn't get lots of traffic free laps to make that consistent so 1.46.5-1.47 was probably more representative on the day (Matt G and I have gone over the Taupo data).

P.S. Gearbox update. Can find any external binding, sounds like its an internal gear shift lockout pin (probably a $80 part with a $2000 labour bill attached). Will be trying the car with new gear oil for SITT and more solid engine mounts and seeing if we can make it through the 5000 kms without issue - then at some stage when funds allow it will likely need the gearbox opening up. Right now the symptom is only on the track under braking+lateral load - so really only spoils the fun on a few corners (and some tracks more than others). Its really not bad enough to warrant major surgery right now and there is some chance firmer mounts and different oil may improve it. Unfortunately eventually the lockout pin will fail and I will then be forced to remedy the situation......Mmmm maybe a nice time to consider some steel synchos and a RS/Cup G5031/32 hybrid gear set?

Unfortunately the next one for me isn't until the 2nd & 3rd of November. Hopefully I will notice some difference on the road before then.

Yeah but still too much to make a viable project if a new refurbed power plant is sourced and 40hrs labour to fit and sort etc
