Sam showed me his timer setup with Harrys Lap Timer on iPhone using a cheap windscreen universal phone mount. As well as capturing lap times, it captures and reports sector times, gforce, breaking/acceleration and lines etc. a nice plus is that it can take video and display this information along with your position on the circuit on top top the video. The video is saved into your albums, ready to be uploaded to YouTube etc or just viewed later.

So this afternoon I went out and bought a similar phone mount and have downloaded the PetrolHead version (has the video feature) for $25.

Sam says is has a feature where we can connect to each other and compare performance live... Not that we'd have time to look at this while driving and it would breach the insurance rules to be able to see these details while driving anyway.

I'll be interested to see how it goes.

That is exactly what Steve recommended I do with my R888's which I've been following.

Thanks guys, gives me something to start with. I don't have 221's but I am running the Dunlops first up.
I took the car out today in sympathy for missing yesterday. It runs so well. After jiggling with the seat position, it has transformed the experience. Also opened the sunroof for the first time. As much as I don't want it, it was quite nice. Totally useless bit of info was that the guy that specced up my 993 from new ordered no sunroof, rear wiper or rear badge and low on other options, don't we all want that now? Main reason for the full warm up was to get the oil level sorted for the tour. I've done 1600 k's in the car and it still doesn't need any oil. The level is about 9 o'clock and has only dropped from about 10 o'clock. This is weird for a 150 000 k's engine from what I have read. 250mls moved the needle up quite a bit and to about 75% on the dipstick.

Not sure how accurate Harry's lap timer is (for me anyway), it said I did a 1.18.05 - and I don''t think that happened, as I borrowed John's SOLO on the same run and only managed a 1.20.07....?

Oh. Maybe it's going to need an external GPS. Time will tell and I like the idea of possibly testing it next to the SOLO on a run. I wonder if the soft top will allow better GPS signal to the phone.

I think you will find a Qstar GPS module will add 10khz GPS to your iphone via bluetooth and mated with Harrys Lap Timer will create very accurate data acquisition.

I was trying to learn Manfield today vis You tube and noted on some in car footage I found a giu which had his iPhone in his pocket with a Quarzstar GPS module and he had the lap time set to read him his time per lap and it seemed like a very handy feature each - each time he passed the start line it read out his time loud enough that he GoPro picked it up well and he obviously never had to take his eyes off the line.

Although I bought the PB Im looking for a solution which is accurate but doesnt sit on the window distracting me or compromising my insurance cover. Im not so sure why Im so concerned about insurance cover having not yet ever been covered for an event but now I know I can I will try to comply as Im guess the 993 now owes me alot of money...

Ha ha, I should never have let on, just pretended I'd magically gained a couple of seconds between sessions

HLT should be good for 1/10th second, which is plenty if you're just interested in times.

Just checked your data. Correct, you didn't do 1.18.05. Your fastest lap was the 7th @ 1.19.72! This is a gnat's codger slower than the fastest recorded lap for Peter, where his 6th lap was 1.19.649. Paul, you are the green trace.

Sorry, can't seem to get a better resolution jpg to work. In the big picture, Peter was faster from the sweeper through the start of turn 2, then Paul took it from there to the sweeper.

Do you know what the technical description of the female PB power socket it so I can see if there is such thing as an adaptor available? It would make it a simple swap between the units....
The plug that is needed to fit into the PB is a DC line - female 2.1mm inner/5.5mm outer. If you know what you need to be able to plug into on the car side I could make up an adaptor if you like.

Dropped the C4 off at Topline. I can see this could be an expensive place to linger e.g. Kevin has just fitted a carbon fibre roof to his 944. Note to self, stay focused, get in get out, move on.
