Any better?? My first impression is the "Techart" version has less plastic-chrome fins & logos
No small a$$

Hopefully a cottage industry will spring up to eliminate all the chrome strakes and strips and scoops and ducts and fins and hexagons. There might be a 911 in there somewhere!?!

I find it funny how upset some people are with Porsche "losing their way." What performance auto manufacturer hasn't at least at some point over the years??? Especially if we count expanding the line up to 4 doors and SUVs, then they all have. And I'd argue that Porsche had a solid 40+ year run where they stayed true to themselves and made some of the best sports cars out there. Do I like what Porsche is doing right now? Not really, but they are doing what they need to to survive and as others have said that is largely dictated by the market and politicians. And I'll take the Porsche we have today over no Porsche at all.
Porsche has been the #1 most profitable auto maker on the planet since the very first year they quietly slipped a wet-sump motor into the 911 and forgot to lower the price (1999)
I'm all for it. Will there be designs that people don't like? Absolutely! That's the cost of progress. I will take that over designs that look just like every other car on the road. You can't mistake the Type R for another car. Does it look like a Matchbox car? Sure, however, as soon as you drive it like it was meant to most people shut up and start to wonder how a FWD car can handle like that. BTW, TechArt was always putting out striking designs and pushing the envelope so nothing new there. Although you can't discount aesthetics, there are people that prefer to look at cars while others judge them on how they drive.
This photo tends to illustrate why I think prices will go up…
992 is big and lots of straight lines and polarizing front fascia. Drives like all hell’s demons let loose. But it doesn’t speak to me like that middle car. The 991 Turbo S. God blessed us with the best all-around car…ever…in that guise. And it can get you around the supermarket parking lot or race track with equal aplomb. Not as nimble as that car in the middle. But who freaking cares? Turbo S people! But for me, it’s unobtanium…sigh. A properly maintained and loved 996 will increase in value like a Penfold’s Grange from the 996 era once did.
It’s all well and good and is just a fun/mental exercise because I’m not worried about selling. However, as values go up, I can keep bumping up my agreed value policy to match the ridiculous sums I spend loving on that middle car.
