Folks I’m not saying the new Porsches aren’t great cars, but they are not 911’s
At some point of departure you are simply no longer referencing the point of origin
That is nothing against Porsche
That is just sad

You? Or the people who make them?

Right, of course. Opinions are like buttholes. Everyone has one.
But you stated it without the qualifier of being an opinion.
992s are indeed 911s... They just may not be your (or my) preferred version of 911.

In about 2 hours we will see what the market thinks about a low mileage 1999. Hoping folks are paying attention and bid it up on a sleepy Sunday afternoon.
All I can say is that if you haven't driven the 964, 993, 997, 991 and 992, you can't fully appreciate the modern visceral feel of the 996, and you will want one.

True in the literal sense, inasmuch as the last 911 in name was 1983
However all flat-six, rear-engined, 2+2 sports cars manufactured by Porsche are marketed and sold as “911” since 1964
I personally define the 911 as any flat-six dry-sump rear-engined 2+2 manufactured by Porsche. In which case 997.1 Turbo was the last non-GT 911 ever made. And 996 Carrera was technically a Type 912 (“Not that there’s anything wrong with that”)

TBH the only real 911 is the 996 40 Jahre, so most of you guys are SOL. Sorry to break the news.

I personally define a 911 by the target market of that particular car. Sports car enthusiast = 911 Madame Bovary = Not a 911

That low mileage 1999 has a lot going for it and a few negatives.
7 owners, only 1 key, non-factory aerokit , missing amber headlights and 408 hollow spokes
None of the negatives would stop me from buying that 996 but I think it’s going to keep the price down.
But I could be wrong,…..
