Prices Keep Drifting Up
#5716
Slipped a wet sump motor with more power, lower emissions, and greater efficiency into a lighter, stiffer, more aerodynamic body that made extensive use of more-expensive materials and forgot to lower the price...
Ever since the plywood pedal board and cardboard door pockets in my 1970 coupe, I've suspected that the "bean-counters" had a say in what Porsche built. It's almost as though they've had a profit motive this whole time!

Meh, I don't care if an electric car says, "Turbo."
I got over fake "Turbo" labels back in the 90s.

[QUOTE=hatchetf15;17973234]This photo tends to illustrate why I think prices will go up…
This picture should win an award.
The 991 Turbo S is a very impressive car. It was the easiest car to drive on the track out of all the cars I ever tracked. The grip with the AWD, huge tires and stability management was incredible. I felt like I was cheating in every turn. The acceleration was mega.
But I still like my 996.2 better.

I know I am being pedantic here, but as an ex-computer nerd from the 90s... I will remind you that pushing the turbo button (turbo activated) actually slowed the computer down so you could run older software that counted CPU cycles to time events. (like older games)
When the turbo was off, was when the computer was the fastest... yeah makes no sense.

Oh, and incidentally I am typing this post on a 1988 IBM Model M 122key keyboard. Ok, I'll see myself out now.

I'm old enough that I upgraded my first computer(Timex 1000) from 1K to 16K and said, "I'll never write a program that needs more than 16K."
Typing this from a 4GB Raspberry Pi 4B with Rasbian 64bit that I put together yesterday.

Yeah, that darn "Turbo" button wasn't worth pushing.

I remember typing in BASIC programs late into the night instead of doing my schoolwork on my ATARI 1200XL.
My kids don't even remember a world without touch-screens.

He has his degree in Robotic technology, but because he graduated in May 2020 when there were no jobs he's now working on his second bachelors degree in IT.
He's better at coding than I am.
He keeps wanting to do a programming project together where we can both learn something.
I'm more interested in home automation these days...because I'm lazy.

Ha, thanks for the info, didn't know why the button existed. I was mostly too young to understand what was going on with our old 486, but I definitely gave my dad some work when every other time I'd try and get some random shareware to work I would inevitably make it unable to boot back to Win 3.1.
Simpler yet more complex times haha. Time to go play some Scorched Earth

Three Wheelin'
Has this thread into the 996 is the only good 911 and everything before/after sucks? Damn. Out of all the 911's driven, I can say that not one was a boring, unpleasant, or non-Porsche feeling experience. They're all different and embrace the times in which they were manufactured.
I know it's easy to get distracted by our subjective opinions, but using this thread for all the reasons you don't like another generation seems...., trivial at best.
Although slightly better than the 996 nut swinging, so how's about finding a middle ground. The old tech talk is fun at least.

No doubt this thread is the most popular because it's entertaining.
But we have an auction this afternoon with a 996.2 with 996.1 side skirts. Red flag or not? Car looks to be in good shape. But the side skirts...
Looking forward to the auction for the red 996.2. May give us a better read on the Gen2 prices.
