To keep the skirt talk going:
Interesting that the front and rear .1 aero parts were never offered on .2 in MY2002; only the .1 side skirts
However, the only other aero part that may have (??) been available MY2002 with the .1 skirts was a funky new .2 rear wing (and not the .2 aero wing)
@FirstFlatSix has one on his gorgeous 996.2 C2, he can post pics if so inclined
I‘m not sure what year his is

The 996.2 front and rear bumper covers reduced front lift by 25 percent and rear lift by 40 percent. That's compared to stock .1; I don't know what the wind tunnel difference(s) there might be compared to .1 aero.
Maybe just limiting production variety -- 'base bumper and turbo bumper (and 2 different factory lower lips for the latter)' is enough'?

That article is from 2017 and he has been proved wrong thousands of times over.
"But if you think you’re going to make money on the deal, or even break even, you'll be sorely disappointed." I'm surprised any car enthusiast would make a blanket statement like that... I'm sure he was just trying to be edgy, because saying no one will make money on a deal (for any car) is very presumptuous in my opinion.
Edit: In fact at the end of the article he retracts all his statements and says if you buy one "you might get lucky". This guy is not a great writer in my opinion. Clickbait article.

Road & Track hasn’t “retracted” anything from 2017, in fact they’ve doubled down. @FirstFlatSix interviewed the author only a few months ago he blamed “temporary runup” of 996 values on Covid, chip shortages, and general inflation
He did concede that “maybe” the limited production models might increase in price “eventually” but insists 996 as a 911 generation will never be desired by serious collectors: “never”
Of course he adores the 997; which is essentially a 996 but with round headlights
In the end, it’s all about the headlights that won LeMans
Nothing more
Nothing less
Pure hate

When I was 17-18 I had a poster of the brand new 996 on my wall. I haven't met ANYONE my age (about 40) that dislikes the 996 because of the headlights. I have met a few people that have a 'only old dentists want Porsches' attitude toward all 911s, but have only gotten positive reactions to my 996. Even had the traffic cop (about my age) at my kids school, stop and talk to me for 15 minutes because it is his dream car.

You might be onto something. I’ve actually met very few people older than me who did not strongly dislike (hate really) the 996 headlights. And conversely, the younger the generation the more they seem to love them. I’m at the upper limit of GenX: so 996 hate must be a “boomer” thing??
I suppose that would explain how with every passing year lately a little more 996 hate vanishes
And a lot more 996 love is born
Bodes well

The headlight hate has to be a generational thing.

Since 1995 I have only been pulled over once in a 911 (a 1999, 996)
82 in 25
Cop loved the car and gave me a warning
Edit: Actually I was once stopped on the Blue Ridge Pkwy in a 964 and the Ranger threw the book at me, and my 1957 VW Beetle round headlights. That alone is reason to love 996

A Virginia LEO gave you a warning instead of a citation? Inconceivable! I tend to stay in WV for any "spirited" use of the roads on my bikes or the car. Nobody there. Nobody cares.

I had an unmarked state police suv close down on me from 1/2 mile behind, come up next to me while we were both going 95 and then turn his flashing lights on for 1 second. I touched my brakes and he turned off his lights and went on his merry way. Just a little reminder to slow down. "Porsche Privilege". At least I was only going 95 and didn't let him see 125+.

Surprised because most NJ patrol don’t tolerate that they tend to be a little gestopo on the roads I’ve experienced

Yeah, I think the last speeding ticket I got was passing through VA over 15 years ago. I think I was on cruise control doing 79 in a 70. Usually cops don’t mess with you on the highway if you’re 10 mph or less over… but not in VA, apparently.

I have a really good radar system onboard and he never activated his. 3 lane highway at night and it was empty at the time. I'm sure he ran my personalized plates as he closed in on me and saw I had a perfect driving record.

At least in my experience, there is speeding and there is speeding like an idiot. If you're cruising above speed limit but in a calm manner where you're not causing danger to others, and comply immediately if flagged, your chances of no ticket are pretty good. I've gotten 3 warning like this over the years. Speeding and jumping lanes to go around traffic is where things can go badly for you.
