i know this question is rhetorical, but it's nostalgia. air cooled, simpler cars.

I test-drove two 993s and found them very disappointing— slower, heavier, a bit sluggish. I always thought they sounded better but even that is not the case. Just a little bit -can I say it- boring. My 2000 996 is more fun and more practical: what’s not to like?

My Indy confirmed this and suggested that a 964 test drive would be more “dangerous” as in tempting to purchase. That hasn’t happened yet though. Some time ago I had the chance to drive a tuned 3.2 Clubsport and that car was absolutely mesmerizing. It’s not just nostalgia.

Right, that's some of it. The largest impact variable, in all the Porsche variables generationally, is production numbers. 993 @ ~ 68k and 996 @ ~ 175k. It's okay...yes the 996 is a "better" car then its predecessors. Will it (996) be as rare as a 930, 964, or 993....never. With Porsche it's rarity and uniqueness; that is where the value originates. Either way, we are all lucky with what we have!

.
Not to mention that the 996 is the first 911 to have the brake and clutch pedal swivel from the top instead of the bottom, a BIG improvement in my book !!

I like the nostalgia argument for the 3.2 Carrera and older models, but the 964 wasn’t very popular about 15-20 years ago. It was disliked like the 996 was.

But anyway, we have to build the nostalgia of today for tomorrow, and the 996 can do it. When it comes to complexity, I don’t feel like the 996 is much more complex than those older cars. My former 3.2 Carrera had all sorts of HVAC blowers, levers, controls, power windows, headlight washers and such. My 996 seems pretty simple except the cabriolet system. I didn’t think my 996 would age well, but everything on it works.

Um, 17K 996 Turbos made, but 19K 930

The 930 will never be as rare as the 996 Turbo

964 was hated just as much or more than 996, and it depreciated even lower ($12K - $17K)

When 996 finally catches on it will be bigger

Much bigger

I legit pissed off a couple people on IG posting that, like unfollowed me. Facts are facts regardless if people like or not, I do appreciate the flat dash era but some people need to just embrace the differences. Maybe I'm looking at it differently because my particular car has a full carbon package and some added leather/suede so it's a beautiful interior.

We just picked up a 2003 Cobra and while it's functional it's pretty awful in terms of interior. I had a 2000 Camaro SS, again absolutely terrible, cheap interior.

Terminator Cobras are my absolute fave and GM had atrocious interiors all the way through the 2000's. To be fair though, my Z had a plastic style interior and mine was a Touring model which was the top comfort trim.

996 interior is fantastically well made, and in leather it’s nicer than a Ferrari

WTH more do you want??

Well on 2nd thought my Cayenne is a frikkin Bentley inside, that just is what it is

VWs were plagued with the same problem as well mid 2000 Audis. Surprisingly my T3 didn't have that problem.
