??? I don't agree at all, service costs will be the same. Upgrades may be more expensive.
Fuel costs, now that's another story. I get 14mpg around town. I guess I enjoy that whooshing sound.

You are right. Parts not service. Fingers and brain werent working together when I typed it. Importantly, this is not a criticism of the turbo. Far from it. My point is that moving to a turbo or even gt3 doesn't necessarily produce a cost savings.

Default Extra radiator?

All of which most folks will never need.
My 2003 C4S has an extra (3rd) radiator? I didn't know that.

Yes, yes, however, as a C2 owner I'll be happy to say for my 4S brothers: You also get the looks of the 996 C4S - the best looking they've ever done.

I’m just getting my feet wet but there are huge performance gains to be had with the turbo. Marskski had a 996 turbo in 09 doing 9 seconds in the quarter mile. Today
a turbo S that cost
$300k plus is a 10 second car. Have a friend that works for Shell he’s the original owner of an 02
with 165k miles on it. Still on original clutch. Car has close to 700 hp. Sam at autobydesign can custom tune and remove the maf. So far the two biggest concerns that have come up about the turbo, coolant lines and mass air flow sensors. Everyone seems to have the opinion that the mezger is a pretty stout engine.

Its worth more than $30 now for sure, not anywhere close to 70 though
This is why you see people overpaying big time at auction, it’s like a casino they get caught up in the bidding and for their ego they want to say they won it regardless of price. Someone here said that I was all bs about buying a cayenne gts, a Carrera s or etc. Finally I bought a turbo but at my max set price. The reserve was not met by $8k, they call me because I was the highest bidder. Anyway I put another $1,500 on it and they sold me the car. When I go buy a car at a dealership I put a final offer and walk away if they don’t take it. We did that on the wife’s GLC in December. Guess what they called the next day, I told the guy this is the offer now, one free maintenance service
and both my wife and I get to choose a Mercedes accessory, you have 30 minutes to take it or leave it. Yes they called me back in 10 minutes. That saved me $2k from where Mercedes was at on a Wednesday evening. A $400 service, my wife choose a mb yeti mug, I got an underarmour mb $85 shirt. The price on this car here is irrational exuberance. Look at the pics from the cars bellow and more irrational exuberance in this two pretty similar 997s turbo.

Darth Vader

No way I’m hell this car is worth $70k more than the one below.

We will see if the 996 bull market is still trending up this week. Have a wide assortment of different 996.1 and 996.2 variations for sale.

So far with early bidding, it looks solid. Not enough turbos and 996.2 coupes up for sale. But both look to be bargains. Problem is not many want to sell. Do you blame them? Nope!

I'll be glad when the prices stabilize, and we can all get back to driving and enjoying our cars....

Yep! I get mine back from the shop hopefully this week with my brand new UAOS and a few other shiny new parts. Can't wait to put some miles on it regardless of 996 prices!

I've always enjoyed Lee's vids, he's the reason I bought the ducktail AND he's pretty active responding to people on IG.

Knowing I could easily sell mine for 6-8k more than I paid makes me enjoy driving it just that much more.

Awesome! By my calculations, I will break even about 2035 since I bought it in 2002 and have already spent the same amount as my purchase price on service, maintenance and upgraded parts. Funny thing is I would do it all over again!

But when you find a car like the 996 that is an incredible driving experience, that gets better looking with age, with broad aftermarket support and cutting edge solutions, it's worth it. 😊

Can't wait for the next 20 years of ownership. Not mention if I can get in and out of the car when I am in my 70's with GT3 seats.

Signed,

Bullish on the 996

Make no bones about it. Love both derivations.
FWIW, Porsche claimed that the 4S lapped the Ring faster, due to 4WD and better brakes.
