Any Rennlisters from New Zealand?
Macca,
While I am a double apex man myself, this is a bollox argument above.
I say this because the single apex guys stay out wide entering and then take a continuous curve and exit on a much tighter line.
If I look at the the single apex line above, the guy has missed the apex on the cork screw, cut in too tight and then 'fudged up' and gone out way wide on the exit. The marbles alone would cost you half a second.
IMHO, I don't know which is quicker, and I think it depends on the car to some degree. My C3 is definitely a double apex car, as the engine is over the back, the tires narrow and the more time you spend going straight the better. But when I drove Pete's 944, double apexing didn't make sense and the car was happier in a continuous curve.
It would be interesting to settle the debate for once and for all, but the line suggested about is very wrong in demonstrating a single apex entry and exit line.......
Just my 10c.......

Last trackday at HD, Doug tried double apexjng his Boxster for a few laps at Turn 10, but gave up when I was pulling away in the C4 each time.
Maybe the execution wasn't what was needed to make it the best option (who knows) but I won't be changing my lines until I see a red C2 overtake me on the way up the main straight

I have attached a crude sketch of how I see the single apex vs the double apex line.
(this is just my opinion and experiences and would be good to debate)
The main difference is the entry. The idea with the single apex is to turn in last minute at the rumble strip and do a continuous arc.The double apex you cut in tight and run sightly wide in the middle of the arc. I think both have similar exit points. The double apex I believe has a quicker entry as you are covering less ground (see blue area), but you give up speed at area mid-point.
The idea is the double apex extends the straight as you turn in tighter and can accelerate sooner to improve exit speed - and is Racing Ray's argument for the line.

Hi guys, so I got a chance to take the 993 for a decent run yesterday bring it down to Taupo (terrible drive on SH1, took us almost 3 hours from central Auckland to Hampton Downs, managed to get off the main roads later though which was good). Car went well apart for one thing, ice cold water in the footwells. I imagine this is because the AC drains are blocked, can I check/clear them with relative ease?
Paul I'm not sure the attachment worked?
I agree the config of the vehicle may determine the quickest approach. For a light and underpowered 911 the double apex could be better. I see the advantages on the few times I get it right but it is difficult to master...

Visited quite a few far north east coast beaches on our tour today. Mostly lovely weather, only a shower with the sun shining this morning. Mangonui, Taupo Bay, Tauranga Bay, Mahinepua, Te Ngaere and Matauri Bay. Now cosy for the next three days in a holiday house in Russell.
