Just had end of day debrief. All good. No overspeed issues (the officials appear to have relaxed a little). Last long stage we had to dlow to a walk for a while twice as we had caught up to the pilot car that checks the stage. A fast stage to finish on then a 70 cruise to Rotovages.

Took a few photos on my point n shoot and now cant find the ipad download cable. Must be on my desk at home

It's been a busy 2 days!
SS1 we lost 3rd gear, synchro is fine but cogs lost some teeth so we decided to keep going and skip 3rd. It's been frustrating at times as most stages use a lot of third.
Ss7 SH25 to whitianga was amazing. Twisty with piles of grip. You'd brake hard the back would start to come round aiding turn in, then the 911 has so much traction as it dives to the next corner with the angle held. and repeat! It was an amazing road to go at it properly.

SS2 I had an E30 go by me, crikey I thought, you've got to be practically out of control to drive in the race! 3 corners later through a fence down a bank!

Today
SS1 pumpkin hill was a magic stage more tight twisties you could really get your teeth into. Had to watch the south sides of banks as they were either wet/mossy or icy!

We've been away 5th so have missed a lot of the stage closures. Although on SS11 hobbiton about 30k into the stage the 1st car a mk1 escort, hit a power pole square on and brought it and power lines onto stage. So that had 11,12 and 13 cancelled.
SS14 was better for us, more 4th gear, although I'm not a fan of cruising at the 200km speed limit! The car is more settled either under power or braking, not feathering for the limit. So oddly found myself braking From 195ish and the accelerating back up. Sounds weird but the car was more settled.

pleases to have made 2 days. And the challenges of trying to carry just 4th is a unique one.

Is it a 915 gearbox? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-...-728066349.htm

Sounds like a very busy couple of days. Just saved these from the Targa Facebook site

Mark. Great write up. I know what you mean about the floaty feeling free wheeling above 200kmph. NZ B roads really dont feel good at thgis speed and above in a light little RWD 911!

Sorry to hear about the loss of 3rd on your first stage! 3rd gear is teh most useful gear on the Targa I found. Mostly we were in 3rd & 4th so it must be a real challenge to drive around that. I lost 2nd/3rd synchro first say out at SITT finally and I know that was a challenge and those were just short track sessions.

Have a good rest tonight and aim to complete tomorrow - finishing a Targa is more important than anything else IMO and Im sure its an event to remember and one like myself where you learn so much about the car, the event and yourself!

Graeme - here's hoping the mechanical gods smile on your efforts to resurrect that suspension.

Mark - thanks for the report. Nice looking car (and helmet). Good to see you gritting your teeth and hanging in there. Hopefully you won't need to finish the final stage on just the starter motor!

If Porsche ever makes sports bikes, looks like they might have some takers here. Just hope VW doesn't pick up a JiaLing or something and make them slap a badge on it
