Those front wheels needs spacers IMO Doug. Rear looks agressive but front a bit anemic. Might be the 993 wheel offsets...

By the way please ensure Im top of the list tobuy those Cup2 alloys back from you if you enver sell them ;-).

So what do you think of the 991.2?

Hi mate. I've kept across the spy pictures and then around a week ago the first in camouflaged cars started to emerge from the production line destined for the launch. These have been pictured in various spots around central and Eastern Europe.

The front end treatment is a slight improvement but honestly I can't really remember what a 991.1 front end looks like so it feels all the same to me. The silver S on recent FB footage has the sports design package with more aggressive front valence and lip spoiler which looks great I think but stock cars don't look as aggressive IMO. The front headlights are Thame as before and the fenders look to be too.

I'm not a fan of the rear. Hidden under the Camo mesh the rear lights have a ledge built into them. It's a detail none of us have yet seen properly. I personally don't like the vertical slat rear spoiler grill. Looks a bit faux retro naff to me! The centre exhausts also look odd to me. I don't like them at all. Remind me of an Audi TT (horrible things lol). I would rather have seen the traditional exhaust pipes or the GT3/Boxster centre style. This in between. Not cohesive IMO and the flimsy plastic trim runs between them to hide the steel pipe work looks messy.

So front is a pass (not much different than before) and rear is a FAIL IMO.

What's more note resting than the small front end and minor interior makeover is the reason behind the rear looking like it does. Turbo charged 2950 cc 6 in the S with approx 420 BHP. The NA engine is dead in a 911. Gone is the lovely flat 6 wail :-(. The torque will make this a very quick back road weekend warrior. God help Porsche if the tuners get ahold of the ECU and crack it. Could be giving 997 turbos a hiding!!

The direction Porsche are moving the 911 doesn't give me a lot of confidence to be honest. That includes the GT range really. The cars are getting expensive and complex, heavier and larger. The next GT3 will be over $300k NZD base. There's rumour of a more basic stepped out version but to be honest I think it will just be something between the GTS and the GT3. Like they don't already have enough variants!

If the Speciale were 30% cheaper than it is there is no doubt I consider one of those over a new GT3 or RS. I'm really in love with that car. It's exactly what I want in a modern Porsche. 9000 rpm, RWD, raw, stripped interior, awesome sound, a little bit edgy like an older 911 but with looks to kill and a real emotive connotation. I've never been a Ferrari guy really but I've lusted after the 355 and now I'm very much lusting after the Speciale but it's way above my pay grade and I don't see them ever going down by 30%!! I hope to drive a mates next year in Dubai for an extended time (it's white) to see if it's as good as it reads and the owners I know say it is!!

That plus a full set of track rubber at $1,829 is too good to pass up and I have huge confidence in these on the track

Ideally, Cayman S wheels would fit, but there must be options out there. I'm fitting 235/40/18 and 265/35/18. Yes, I know I should have bought the OZ wheels off Chris, but that was a while ago and the eventual buyer, Trundle, isn't a seller, apparently.
John, Will be interesting to see if you notice the quicker acceleration with the smaller rears.

Just had 19" OZ wheels priced up.... Almost $4k! I'm looking for something cheaper...

Better to fit OZ wheels, even if $4,000 landed. It's all relative.
What do you guys reckon is harder on wheels, street/B road or track days? Track smoother but faster and more lateral forces but B roads are rough, pot holes etc...

Thoughts?

Yes, fronts are almost exactly the same. Rears are just over 3% smaller in circumference so there might be some discernible difference in acceleration.

$4k is relatively cheap for new wheels and you know their history. Unfortunately the bleeding edge doesn't get the benefit of cast offs as people go larger. I bought 18" tyres as they are a less expensive long term cost and I love Z221s.

I think I will go with the OZ wheels. I never regretted buying the new Fuchs and I look after my stuff. Any thoughts on the colour for the OZ wheels?
I quite like the white with black.

Forgeline make some nice wheels as well, and they're reasonably priced for forged (pretty sure the OZ's are cast?).
What's the difference between cast and forged again... As in which is better?

Ha, it's funny how we justify things... Johns $6k on wheels and tyres was such a bargain yet his house mods at $35k get shelved yet it's the property that is the real investment...

Totally depends if you routinely run the ripple strips on track. Some, like at Taupo, are downright brutal. HD not so much of a problem though.

Forged is better. Strong and light.
