Acutally this would raise a lot more revenue and save big time of cops and patrol cars...........
Don't put thoughts into their heads. I'm surprised that they haven't thought of track-it for probationary purposes i.e. they require you to limit yourself to one car after a big ticket and monitor that car for speeding.

More seriously, I don't want to give the impression that I favour a lawless state or have an issue with the Police. Neither is the case. I just don't want to have a life with ever increasing controls coming from other people so choose which laws I will obey (all the ones that respect other people and their property). I don't over estimate the risk of being caught or get fraught over the fine. Heck, the penalty for under 10km speeding is 10 demerits and $30. I imagine this raises less revenue than it costs to collect.

I've written this before. My ticket in 2006 was just outside Te Kuiti. I broke the cardinal rule and passed a group of bikers on boost in the Turbo 3.6 with no rabbit. 136km/hr, only a few km/hr away from walking. The officer was using instant on. Since then I've seen the same spot used by officers many times with no doubt the same tactics.

My normal rule is to find a 'rabbit', someone like Paul who is pre-wired to follow no-one. He will overtake me for the kill, especially if I stay at 100km/hr. When overtaken I push from behind to get the convoy speed up, staying close enough to be in the radar shadow but far enough back to be safe. The rabbit will hit the speed camera and radar traps first and give me more warning if instant on is being used.

Personally, I think our cars are most enjoyable on winding roads. Long straights and overtaking lanes on SH1 etc are painful given the policing and likelihood of being pinged.

To anyone interested; my car is out of action for this weekend's PCNZ driver training, so my place is now free for others to use (assuming it hasn't gone already, let us know Paul). Shout out if you're keen.

RE club nanny policy being considered: this would have severe impacts on all drive club events, let alone the track focused days. Someone has a nasty accident on the way to the PCNZ Xmas picnic, and the club has to wear the responsibility? Not as far fetched as it may sound. But it is potentially going much wider than that; think a kid accidentally breaking the leg of another in a football match, or a person choking on a girl guide biscuit...

Hi guys, went and checked out the 2x 996 Turbo's at Fast 4's and they are both pretty rough. Good news is baby capsule fits fine (at least with the electric memory seats).

I spoke to the guy with the grey '05 Turbo S coming in from Singapore but he wants a solid deposit and not that keen (been burnt sight unseen before) without PPI.

Does anyone know of any good tiptronic 996 Turbo's up for grabs? I've chatted to the wife and she can borrow my car when she needs to do serious baby stuff - work is close proximity to home etc.

The Turbo S looks very sound. Given the newish application of RMVT laws to car sales through Trademe I wouldn't see this as a risk. It is a very good buy for an S (x50 with ceramics) and I think the best proposition you'll find in NZ at the moment. If I was looking I would jump.

Due to a rogue piece of steel wire I have to replace my right rear tyre at short notice. As there seems to be a shortage of Michelin Pilot Super Sports in the right size at tyre rack and I refuse to pay local prices, I'm replacing all four corners with Hankook RS3's.

As a result, I now have two fronts and one rear that I'm not using. I'll list them on Trademe, along with my second set of Turbo wheels, this weekend. If anyone is interested let me know.

The Michelin fronts are both good and have even wear with 5.5mm remaining. The LHR tyre is also good with even wear and has 5.75mm remaining.

The second wheels have a set of Toyo Proxes1 on them, but they're 5 yrs old so unsure what the rubber is like (although Dave's SC running 12 yr old tyres around HD might indicate they're just broken in!).

It wouldn't play for me when you first posted it but it worked tonight and I see it's one of the clips I watched several times over when I binged on rally clips after the Targa tour. Mostly Rohrl, Makinen, Sainz but also these Irish guys and some vintage rally clips with Stig Blomvqist (presumably the inspiration for he of the white suit) in his Saab along with some of his early peers.

The MVP award for the clip you posted just about has to go to the co-driver too though with his urgent "Keep the push on!", "Give me 200 downhill here for me brother" etc. Priceless, and some spectacularly committed driving.

I'm sure their Escort is well sorted but it still shows you don't need the latest and greatest equipment to be doing it for real.

Ask for the service history. Also, some prefer the look of 19" 997T rims on the 996T, but you will lose a little bit of handling performance. Counterintuitive I know, but it was tested back in the day by a magazine and they explained the 19s being slower on their handling tests by surmising that Porsche had developed the car to use 18s.

Hopefully the red interior is actually more like the red in Doug's RS60, otherwise look pretty tidy. The ceramic brakes are only a bonus if they haven't been worked hard and you're not planning to track the car much. If the wear circles are showing you might be close to $$$ rotor replacements all around. Steel rotors are the pick for tracking the 996T.

Yeah man, if you don't got speed you might as well have sideways.

I prefer the original 996T wheels, would try and track down some originals. I spoke to one of the guys at motorscience and he said go NZ new and no PCCB's - just weighing the options. I like the idea of them but not the $10k/corner replacement cost.

It seems a few cars come up so might have to play the waiting game.
