Mine was NZ new and wasn't problem free. I wouldn't let origin limit my choice. Buy on condition.

The MVP award for the clip you posted just about has to go to the co-driver too though with his urgent "Keep the push on!", "Give me 200 downhill here for me brother" etc. Priceless, and some spectacularly committed driving.

I'm sure their Escort is well sorted but it still shows you don't need the latest and greatest equipment to be doing it for real.
A top well sorted FIA historic Escort rally car could be more expensive than a Porsche!!

Play the waiting game, enough of them come up.... I purchased sight unseen, the car had a full dealer history, the owner had a Porsche ownership history and two other P cars, nevertheless I've already put 15k in making it better.

- Paint correction
- Coolant pipes welded
- Plastic washer bottles, any perishing hoses replaced
- New sound insulation (engine was out)
- Cruise control fixed
-Centre console repair
- Interior refresh
- New front spoiler
- Wheel curbing repairs
- New michelins
- Brake calipers repainted

Theres a bunch of other stuff I've missed, the car was completely sound as is, it was mostly optional, depends how mint you want the car, once you start poking around you realise they are getting long in the tooth though. The cars done 67kms so hopefully I will get some trouble free motoring after this initial spend.

I checked out the cheaper black one before mine it was a bit rough & didn't find black desirable on a 996tt. Peoples circumstances change, but I'm wary of someone owning a car like that for 6 months then onselling.

John's obviously right, buy condition first, but I also feel that Motorscience don't have an axe to grind in advising NZ new, they work on this stuff everyday.

Lastly, they are awesome cars, I love mine!

I actually follow these guys racing after I saw this same video a few weeks ago. They rolled it last week. No one hurt and im sure they'll be back on the road again soon.

Yeah I did. You know me - lap times are secondary. Don't want to overload the SC with sticky rubber to cause other things to fail. Old rubber is fine for Tamiki drive on a Sunday.
Seriously, if I keep it it will get new boots

I wasn't thinking about lap times. I know you circulate mostly for fun. Just thinking a tyre failure out there might have mucked up all that good work you've been doing cleaning up the paintwork ;-) for the road it wouldn't bother me...

I would personally be more concerned on the road, at least on the track they might come up to temp ok and gain a little traction!

My good luck continues - todays excursion led me to discover that NZ has a cross section of the Hankook RS3's; I visited Brian at Mega Tyre, only to discover that the fronts he had for me were '13 manufactured version 1, and the rears '14 manufactured version 2. Frustrating. I much prefer to spend my hard earned $ locally, but it's difficult sometimes! Anyone have a tyre contact in Australia that can source Hankooks?

Jake, frustrating. Just as I was hooked on the Z221 they stopped supplying the front size I liked. Supplies of the rears for the 18" fitment were also limited/difficult. Both issues led us to look at Australian supply. Unfortunately the freight costs were outrageous. Stalemate.

Have you checked in with the importer, Value Tyres I think? Brian's pretty good but a bit old school - you may find matching tyres elsewhere in the network.

Correct. I did the legwork here and it was not a viable solution.

Im not 100% sure but I thought I read that RS3 were updated in 2014 to a new compound?
