If I understand correctly, just like the 996 Turbo cooling procedures, the M96 is one and done at approximately the same cost with the Solution and UAOS.

On both you will have equivalent costs for replacing all of the 20 year old rubber and plastic engine parts, sensors, exhaust, suspension, etc.

So what is missing on the Turbo for major failure points? Why did everyone shy away from them 10 years ago? Transmission, drive train?

996 Turbo Estimated Costs
Turbo purchase price: $55,000
Engine & Cooling Refresh: 15,000?
Exhaust/Software/Intake: 10,000?
Suspension: 5,000?
TOTAL: $80,000

It was the despised headlights that won LeMans

The reason I didn't get a Turbo is still the reason I don't drive a turbo, and that is because it is a turbo.

Only Mezger that interests me is the GT3 but I'm not gonna daily a 996 GT3 at this point, too rich for my blood.

Besides If I was really focused on reliability I would just drop in the engine from my mother in law's honda odyssey.

You just nailed why the 996 Carrera. I love the turbo but prefer the naturally aspirated engine.

I REALLY like the green!

The de-amberectomy can easily be reversed.

I don't mind the 911 script, and that's likely the only mod I'd keep on that car.

The squares are likely velcro for dashcovers.
I sold and installed a bunch of them back in the 80s and 90s.
Hopefully they can be removed and won't have affected the leather dash.

Default What else to do if I drop the engine

my car seems to be all sorted out and Is at 60k miles right now if I drop the engine what else should I have my mechanic do?? It ain’t going to cost me that much as I get preferred rates from my mechanic. 03 996 turbo coupe.

A search will answer that for you I'm sure.
In the meantime let's circle back for an update on the topic of this thread.

"...meanwhile the 996 is beginning to look like a collector car market" ???

Yeah, we've been saying this since 1998

Luis, I would also love to know the answer to your question. Not ever looking to get rid of my 996.2 Carerra but 996 Turbo prices seem to have weakened considerably as of late and may represent an interesting opportunity as the economy weakens.

But as you know with any car, it's not just the purchase price, it's the all in cost that are just as important. Let us know what you find out. Maybe a new thread from you comparing and contrasting the two cars you own from different topic perspectives. This is a valuable topic in pricing trends as well as overall ownership costs.

ALL the auction sites now have experienced used car sales managers running their admissions

They will bully you into a reserve that churns and burns your car. If your 911 cannot generate top dollar based on “blue chip” spec, you will likely lose big in this economy listing on auction.

List on classifieds and stand your ground, November 2024, will arrive in a blink of an eye
If you are willing to share, I am curious why you didn't list your '99 Vesuvio on BaT. I felt like you left $10k on the table at the time compared to the RL asking price (with respect- I'm sure there is more to the story...)

Weld or at least pin the coolant lines!

Vacuum lines go bad with age and heat.

Same with anything rubber.

Thanks I have ordered a few parts from Pelican. I spoke with my mechanic Monday and as soon as the stuff gets here I’ll be scheduling with him. We will look over the whole car. Cooling system seems to work great I drove the car almost 7 hours at 90 mph on cruise control, ac blowing on low and outside temps as high as 115. Temp needle between the 1 and 8. I’ll be getting the radiators cleaned anyway.
