Prices Keep Drifting Up

If I understand correctly, just like the 996 Turbo cooling procedures, the M96 is one and done at approximately the same cost with the Solution and UAOS.
On both you will have equivalent costs for replacing all of the 20 year old rubber and plastic engine parts, sensors, exhaust, suspension, etc.
So what is missing on the Turbo for major failure points? Why did everyone shy away from them 10 years ago? Transmission, drive train?
996 Turbo Estimated Costs
Turbo purchase price: $55,000
Engine & Cooling Refresh: 15,000?
Exhaust/Software/Intake: 10,000?
Suspension: 5,000?
TOTAL: $80,000

The reason I didn't get a Turbo is still the reason I don't drive a turbo, and that is because it is a turbo.
Only Mezger that interests me is the GT3 but I'm not gonna daily a 996 GT3 at this point, too rich for my blood.
Besides If I was really focused on reliability I would just drop in the engine from my mother in law's honda odyssey.

Nice color. I never get why car listings like this often don’t include a good description of the car including recent maintenance. And what’s up with the clear indicators on the front and rear ambers? What are those ugly black squares on the dashboard? 911 script on the deck lid…
The de-amberectomy can easily be reversed.
I don't mind the 911 script, and that's likely the only mod I'd keep on that car.
The squares are likely velcro for dashcovers.
I sold and installed a bunch of them back in the 80s and 90s.
Hopefully they can be removed and won't have affected the leather dash.

What else to do if I drop the engine
If you pay a shop to do this to a 996 Turbo it's probably in the range of $7k to remove the engine, weld up the coolant pipes, and replace every coolant hose in the engine bay. I have done this to both my 996 Turbo's and the parts cost is around $1500 in 2020 dollars; I did all the labor. With that you will be good to go for another 20 years.

"...meanwhile the 996 is beginning to look like a collector car market" ???
Yeah, we've been saying this since 1998

But as you know with any car, it's not just the purchase price, it's the all in cost that are just as important. Let us know what you find out. Maybe a new thread from you comparing and contrasting the two cars you own from different topic perspectives. This is a valuable topic in pricing trends as well as overall ownership costs.

Sellers beware: if you list your car with a low reserve it will probably be stolen in this market
ALL the auction sites now have experienced used car sales managers running their admissions
They will bully you into a reserve that churns and burns your car. If your 911 cannot generate top dollar based on “blue chip” spec, you will likely lose big in this economy listing on auction.
List on classifieds and stand your ground, November 2024, will arrive in a blink of an eye

Vacuum lines go bad with age and heat.
Same with anything rubber.
