Have signed up for the Pirelli series, Classic Porsche and Dual Sprints (if they happen.) Dinner tickets for for 2 for both weekends. Would love to do the Enduro as well but may be a bridge too far for the 44. Want to take the R for the sprints so hope more people sign up for that. Being uninsured is a concern but so long as its not wet I'll be out there.

Like John says these opportunities don't come around often so when they do its a case of jump right in. 2 weekends being immersed in the cars we love, telling stories, a bit of driving and a few beers at the end of the day. Bring it on!!

One of the more interesting sales to have come up recently. Curious to see what the market thinks.

Known to some in the aforementioned FB groups if anyone is seriously interested

I had a guy that was looking at my 993 and when the slate grey 964 came up on TradeMe just after it was listed I forwarded him the link. He attempted to buy it but the seller withdrew the listing. He's just picked up the 964 below, previously owned by Racing Ray. Ian is Auckland based and also owns a 930T, 996T and GT3.

Did he buy it from Racing Ray? If so that would be the car the paint shop Herman is in did a few weeks back.

An excerpt from his email to me "Here are some particularly poor pics from Friday.
The black trim looks washed out. Will do some more when I get her.
Interior is mint except for ugly speaker covers in the front.
Motor science have done a full rebuild on the engine and the car feels real tight on the road. Ray has had the suspension set up real nice and the paint job was $15k and looks amazing in the flesh. Only 3 owners in NZ and came here from Japan 15 yrs ago. Ray has had for 9."

The 964s are starting to get some wider love out there with $$$ invested in body and engine. Great to see.

I'm all for truth in advertising but this is the first car I've seen to list a 'hell hole' as a feature.

That 930 does look great. Wish I saw more of them out and about. Can still remember the last one some months ago - white and heading north up SH1 past Highbrook.

There is some great modern insulation matting available these days, light and effective. I spoke with the owner of Hamiltons in Australia when at the Rennsport reunion there in 2013 while looking at one of his "modern recreations". He gave a few tips. Use it on all the flat steel surface areas as they act like a "drum" in amplifying the road noise...
where and what do I look for re light weight sound deadening? might investigate. Mine is the no compromise lwt build. no sound deadening at all and not even a full carpet set. sounds good but a bit loud for touring.

Dynamat make a product from memory. Ill do some digging around. From my experience if its not an out and out dedicated track machine then leave strategic sound insulation in place. My car may sound loud from the outside but everyone who has ridden in it (John. Dave, Chris, Paul, Jamie etc) will attest that its not noisy inside. You hear the engine warble at an acceptable level but zero resonance from exhaust or road.

New Zealand roads are very very "loud" by international standards. Ive driven myself regionally extensively in at least 25 countries and have not encountered a surface as rough or loud as our chip surfaces anywhere.

Default Dynamat drone fix

I killed off my aftermarket exhaust drone by fitting Dynamat to the interior metal of the firewall and parcel shelf. Half a 'door kit' of it was enough, but I wouldn't call it lightweight per se. It sticks on and works not through isolation or absorption but through mass damping (dropping the resonant frequency of the panel down to below where it would be a problem), so is actually still pretty heavy. Even half a door kit probably weighs about 3 or so kgs. By applying it more heavily towards the middle of the unbraced, vibrating panels, with then just a single layer over the top it had the most effect for the least weight. Couldn't stand driving to work, never mind contemplating a tour in her before that was sorted though, so the weight was a small price to pay in the scheme of things.

If you have a low frequency droning (booming) problem that makes people queasy, Dynamat works well. If you have a higher frequency general 'exhaust too loud' problem, you'd probably instead need acoustic foam along the lines of the factory fitted stuff, as Macca mentions too, or to muffle it at source (last resort).

New Turbos launched. Yikes. Looks like a base "new model" 991TS will be $400K NZD next year....
