^^^ Good stuff Pel. Probably a good idea to register your interest in the Dual Sprints already with Jim, the festival chairman, if you can't yet enter officially. Email address is (his first name)@nzfmr.co.nz with your name and car details, plus a car picture if you have one handy.

Paul - correct me if I'm wrong, but it says to do that in the regs.

Default PCNZ Grass Gymkhana and PCNZ Christmas Picnic

Thanks again to all who made the Grass Gymkhana possible this weekend gone. Fun and a fantastic lunch (pulled beef burgers no less! - well done Emily). Nothing like a bit of mud to neutralise 500 odd hp!

I'm also putting my family on the list for the PCNZ Christmas Picnic today - only realised at the gymkhana that registrations are closing any day now.

I'm still undecided if/when I will put it up for sale, but want to prepare the car properly. The general consensus seems to be to leave the paint as is, make sure its original as possible, and try not to let the tire kickers wear me down? I'd love to keep it off trademe but that's not always an option which is understandable.

Also if anyone has any real world guess at the value of a 1980 RoW SC with 40,000
k's on a top end I'd love to hear your thoughts. I know prices are very subjective, and what I've seen recently just makes me laugh... The car runs like a top. Only has maintenance records from my ownership, and a hand written receipt for the top end, provided by previous owner.
Interior looks great, with re-trimmed seats. Exterior has had a poor respray in the past. Looks great from 10 feet. Looks poor at 2 feet.

My biggest fear is running a trademe ad, that gets lots of interest and bids, but the sale doesn't go through at the end. This never ends well.... If that happened I would probably be forced to keep the car indefinitely haha!

Any thoughts appreciated. Either on here, or by PM

Chris
Chris,

The perfect sale for me is where I am happy that market price has been paid, and where I can meet the new buyer socially later on and not cringe. Heck, I even fill the petrol tank on delivery. That’s how much my reputation matters to me. That requires full disclosure to work. I suspect only a portion of sellers operate on that principle and not all buyers are ready for that.

A well written Trademe ad (not auction) is as valid as any marketing method. Get quality pictures, point out both the positives and (material) items that may need to be addressed in future. A PPI from a respected specialist would be a bonus, but is not necessary as a serious buyer will do that themselves. Price it for what you believe its worth. I think SCs have ranged from $30k to $75k recently so don’t short sell yourself but equally don’t think moonbeams will be paid for a lesser example.

The market is very small and whatever you do there will be ‘noise’. In my experience however that’s generally because cars are either well overpriced and/or have under-disclosed faults. Avoid those two extremes and you should have no problems.

Thanks John,

Really appreciate the points raised. I completely agree about the full disclosure part. Really don't want a sale to back fire... for either party! Will have to get the camera out.

Thanks again

Chris

Seriously. 60K for a rotten face lifted, forward dates 80s imported LHD converted care that sat under a tree for a decade?????

I really dont know where to start without being rude!

Chris, John has given sage advice. Hes spot on. I think Id want 35-40K for the car. I assume its not NZ new and basically with limited provenance and history and a rough paint job Im not sure I could expect more. They market is kind right now but not blind. My to be honest I know nothing of these earlier cars in terms of value so please don't listen to me.

To save you spoiling those Carbon Fibre buckets seats in case the buy back option comes around. The R is for driving not sipping your skinny choi latte.....

You enter on the motorsport web link.

Hi Paul. Thanks and yep, that's what I just did. But without a current motorsport licence, Motorsportentry won't take Pel's Sprints entry so I don't think he can enter officially yet. That's why I thought he may as well register his interest in the meantime per the regs.

Thinking about it again, I guess you're probably the Race class co-ordinator for the Sprints anyway though Paul.

I believe there is an option to say TBA under the licence. You can enter without one.

Looked into Girodisc floating rotors for my car - wow, didn't know relatively standard steel rotors could cost that much! Roughly $5000 to buy locally, maybe $3600 imported ($1500 for OEM). Second round is 'only' $2600, as hats are reusable, and rotors apparently last 2.5 times longer than OEM. They're much less prone to cracking somehow...

Well said John, Chris there's nothing wrong with aiming high either, without seeing the car I would have a stab at 45k?

If it sold within 24 hrs at 35k (probably will) would you be happy or wonder if you were under market?

If you are buying another air cooled car & its not lined up already, the seller may not be as reasonable with price as you were with your sale?

If the market speaks you can always drop the price?
