....owned by a friend the whole private island can be hired per night for very modest cost (can sleep 12). Good kite surfing, diving (intact WW2 corsair in 35m not far from island - it's an awesome dive), great fishing and white powdered sand. Might be a good spot for RSG AGM?

Walt. The GT3 is no drag queen. Turbos with gobs more torque and 4WD would be best for that. I doubt it would go below 11.30 quarter mile...

I have been itching to try launch control but have not come across a suitable straight unpopulated and safe piece of pavement to try it, at least not when I've thought to give it a go. I have done a few hot launches using paddle neutral which is fun but not overly efficient (you can spin up the wheels easily).

Why not enquire about hiring the whole strip for half a day? I'm sure we cod get 10-20 RSG guys there for a bit of fun and 3-4 timed events each would occupy 3-4 hours at the strip. I'm sure it would work out economic with those numbers?? I'm fair certain there would be interest.,,

Interested, in both the half day rental and in the AGM destination!

Pel, interesting to see that there is a way to update the 996 to active dynamic suspension. Are you considering it? Imagine it would appeal to anyone looking at suspension upgrades for a 996 (with a bit of coin to burn...).

Definitely keen on a drag day, old man would be keen on a few half track passes on the new chassis also.

Yes, looking at who's keen already, it's looking like a bigger event than a handful of cars dropping around after the Sprints.

On low friction surfaces, AWD helps acceleration but 2WD is no handicap on a dragstrip for a decently tyred rear/mid-engined car. There is enough grip to unweight the front wheels to the point where they're not contributing much traction when it would be most usefu, even for street cars. The rear wheel drive McLaren MP-12C on that sheet I posted a page back posting the third fastest 0-100, and the second fastest quarter times.

Low-down torque means plenty of power on tap at low revs but your GT3 will never drop under the 6500 launch rpms during your drag run so power won't be any issue either. And your rapid fire PDK-S transmission is worth around half a second over the 5 speed auto in mine (for the 0-100 and the quarter). Mine would need a ~$10K or so second upgrade to make that time up through another power increase.

I don't know how much runoff there is at the end of the strip but it would be interesting to carry on a bit and compare AIM acceleration rates closer to 250 if there's enough room. Power outweighs shift times and vehicle weights up high. Pity there's little opportunity or venue for 0-300 tests in NZ...

I don't really care about any of that Walt. I just want to try out my launch control.

Fair enough. My main interest is just to get a better idea of what she does 0-100 and over the quarter on a decent surface, but also just looking forward to being able to say I've run her on a dragstrip.

Have spoken with Gary - the manager - and he'll check the diary and let me know on what dates a half-day hire is available (ideally a weekend day in that 8 Sept to 4 Oct period that you'll be over next - other than the NITT weekend of Sept 12-14 of course!).

No, I didn't read the post properly, was thinking it worked with PSM.

After checking the website I realized it wouldn't.

Not gonna spend dough on the 996tt mod wise unless it's low lying fruit.

Heading along to a Kartsport have a go day this weekend, will find out what the best class is for what I want to achieve and go from there.

Good call Pel. Your stock suspension is already not a bad compromise for NZ. Many Americans lust after our ROW (rest of world) 996T suspension as their stock Turbos ride considerably higher over there. Only real 'mod' these need IMO is to have the front toe set neutral or even a mm or so out per side to bring the car to life, with rear toed in maybe a couple of mm a side. And the silly coolant fittings fixed properly of course if you're planning to work her hard every now and again. Of course, once you're ready for some more power down the track, decent safe tunes start around US$1000.

That karting is brilliant fun. Is it on Saturday or is it Sunday this time? Tempted to try and make it if Sunday.

Macca - that looks perfectly idyllic over there. Was a bit worried when your first post just said you'd woken up all alone on an island though. Was worried you might be feeling a bit woozy and one kidney lighter!
