Hey,
Cool to see such a large and active NZ section on this forum. I've just joined today having ordered a Cayman GT4 which should arrive in September. Still haven't decided on the spec, but I'm sure a bit of research on this forum will help.
I've met a few of you at the track... I'm thinking the GT4 would be a better track car than the M5!!
Have I stumbled upon the forum on which the Rennsport group talk?

Hey Guys,
Just bought my first Porsche, joined up here the other day and just stumbled across this thread.
I'll be joining the Porsche Club this week and keen to get some track days under my belt to get a feel for the Cayman.
I don't get the car for another week or so but hope to meet some of you soon.
Chris

If any of the 993 fraternity hear about you being beaten by 964's or 996's - you shall be disowned...............(no pressure and have fun......)
You need to Steve Wong chip the car too - makes a massive difference in how these cars feel.
Here's some inspiration for you............

Leong72 & Moochier. Welcome to the board. This is the gateway to drug addiction not recovery, be warned :-)
Leong. This isnt the Rennsport Gruppe board. That is a private board members only and locked down so not for public consumption. Its where we organise our track and road events, such as our annual North Island Track Tour and South Island one, Targa and fast road weekend and touring. If you wish to Join please PM Kiwi 911 (he is a committee member) and we will get the ball rolling. Same for Moochier. We are a Porsche only track group and we respect each others property and a a well bunch and fun group of b*strds LOL!
By the way congratulations on the GT4. You will not be alone. Myself and another will have one arriving in 2016 after our Rennsport Gruppe European Adventure. Yes, colour choice is hard isnt it. MY wife gets to chose this time so it will be the least hardcore of the three Porsches and our only Porsche without bucket seats!!!
Luke. Great idea getting the 993 sported for the tour. Not much I can add to what Paul says apart from a photo below of the "993 gang" when they ere a gang that is not a retirement community. The 993s help off everything other than a 996TT, a 997S driven by a Bridgestone champ and a track rat 6.2 GT3. But thats not the point. The point is to enjoy it - no one will be fast lapping as its new tracks to everyone - just get in and learn the car slowly and by the end of the 4 track tour and all the road driving that car will feel like it fits as a glove. Then you can go to Manfield and beat our 993 lap record.
John. Good stuff getting the R out. It will take some time to dial into the gearbox and the platform. Im still very much dialing into the new car after the 993 which is quite a different machine which Ive come to understand and learn to pedal. The new one is very different. A few things. Firstly, the car is capable of well under 1.17. Your Vmax trap speed is around what Paul and I can get out of our 993s at flat chat with a tail wind if we get out of T10 perfectly and this is on sticky Z221. Your sweeper speed is about the same but the speed coming into the sweeper at 195kmph indicated is much higher than the 993 and almost the same as the GT3, this will be a function of PDKs ingear acceleration advantage and the low weight of the platform. If your car was on Z221 and driven quickly my guess is you would be looking at around 1.15.8 -based on the differential the US owners find with the Cayman R over a stock 6.2 GT3 on a short course. However thats not possible out of the box especially with those Bridgestone RE which I think will be the key handbrake to fast lap times. Im not sure what options are available for you for the road/track but would definitely be looking at the Nittos the R888s and if you are feeling rich the MPSC2s for 19" fitments. Evene the MPSS will knock another 1+s off your time from the bridgestones and save some unsprung weight (Japanese rubber is heavy!).

It's owned by Matt Gibson, who has recently started CSS fabrication. It was featured in performance car magazine here http://www.themotorhood.com/themotor...porsche-911-sc
