Flying to Queenstown tomorrow, ending by flying out of Auckland the 28th. Stopping in all major area's in between.

I got the nice driving roads from Macca, some I can hit.

What are tracks for track days? I will end up with a AWD Subaru, unless the rental car company has something better that they let me drop off in Auckland.

Highland MOTORSPORTS is near Queenstown, but have not found others..

Dont bother stripping the weight from the car that handicap seems to be serving you well mate. Take what is given ;-)
There are more drivers than that but not all can make every round and Puke was particularly hard on 'retirements'. So by the last race it was a bit thin. But I think we have had about 20 drivers so far this season. But we definitely need more - 3 or 4 more 944s would be epic.

The NZGT race was the one I got lucky as lead from the front and there must have been some kind of carnage behind. That grid started at 26 for the weekend with a speed differential of 1.12 to about 1.20 - and a 'different' standard of driving. Very loose!!

This web site shows an event at Hampton downs - Auckland - in your window but not sure is you will arrive there by the date. Manfield at Fielding (near Palmerston North) run open sessions on Fridays for cars and bikes if any turn up but think you may need a cage. May be worth seeing if you can rent a car. Anyone know if Richard Lester still does this?

Taupo Motorsport park probably can rent something

Let me know when you are passing by Wellington
cheers and good luck finding something

Easiest way to get on track usually is 'Playday on Track' but their street car track day on the 13th is sold out. The other day is a race car practice but you could call them and try your luck maybe:

SATURDAY 13 DECEMBER CARS
Hampton Downs SOLD OUT
THURSDAY 18 DECEMBER
Race Car Practice 2 GroupsKarts 1 Group Hampton Downs $75

Uncles Club may also have some trackdays around Auckland you could join in on but someone would need to give you their details.

Taupo has a Public Test Day scheduled for the 17th Dec you could aim for.

To answer your original question, New Zealand Road Racing Circuits from north to south:

AUCKLAND or nearby:

Pukekohe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pukekohe_Park_Raceway
Hampton Downs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hampton...otorsport_Park

TAUPO:

FIELDING (NEAR PALMERSTON NORTH):

SOUTH ISLAND:

Christchurch ('Ruapuna'): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Pero_Motorsport_Park

Timaru ('Levels'): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timaru_..._Motor_Raceway

Cromwell, near Queenstown: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highlands_Motorsport_Park

Invercargill: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teretonga_Park

If you're driving up to Auckland on a week day you'll be passing me in Drury. If you're looking to maybe catch a feed in a country cafe and check out some epic local roads, call or drop me a text. Will PM my number.

[Update - bit slow hitting the post button - I see Graeme's pretty much got you covered]

Bob
Sure did Bob - here's a shot of the (356) A team:

Hard to fully appreciate on this pic but I remember being struck at how low the 356 bonnet line is and how sleek they are. Seen them before of course but never from down low in front. They must've looked as futuristic in the late 40's and '50s as the 928 did in the late 70s and early 80s.

Well, except for pending funds transfer it appears that the McMillan 911 collection will be down one on Wednesday as the 996TT will be on its way to Christchurch.

No inspection asked for, but I made a voluntary full disclosure so still done to my standards.

The buyer is getting a super car for Holden money.

WOF, rego and scheduled servicing sorted for the next year. I will fill the fuel tank as well (stiffing a buyer with an empty tank is a pet hate of mine).

I can't control what happens in the new ownership but I hope it makes the guy happy....if he keeps his licence for any length of time that is.

Who knows, I could be selling the most DD suited car in my garage and in for first world problems like how to get around when I work on another car for weeks. Certainly if I take Herman out of service to do the bushes or gearbox I'm now fubar.

Congratulations John, and to the new owner too. Are they new to Porsche and picking her up from your place? If they have the time, a scenic and winding route back down would be an epic way to get to know her. I had people asking me about her at Milford yesterday too so I figured she wouldn't hang around!

Good work John. And I agree, my pet hate is picking up a new car with an empty tank (the Ford dealer here was oh so kind to promise 5000vt of premium diesel in the new Wildtrack 3.2 we are buying and made it sound like a favour!).

Mate. You live 5km from work. If you become car less due to maintenance timing walk, cycle or catch the yellow bus :-)

I don't think he is a Porsche owner/nut. He didn't ask many questions. Perversely that put weight on my shoulders.

It's being transported to Chch so hopefully by the most direct route

Damn, and there I was all ready to volunteer my services as a delivery driver/shakedown tester (thinking The Transporter...)

Or maybe not. It has started already - some 100 kph roads down to 80, some 70s to 60. More than 50 sections just in the Tasman District alone. As I predicted recently, those being dropped are "mostly rural roads":

In fairness to that crashed McLaren P1 driver, high downforce cars are misleading since their aero downforce is proportional to the square of their speed, and the lighter the car, the more striking the difference in total grip at different speeds. A quick blast through some dry canyons could easily lead someone to over-estimate its stickability on a slower corner with a wet patch. Ouch!
