wow that certainly is a scary close one. Very odd because the preceeding bit of road is straight, just the small crest. Must have started the slide by pulling to left too quickly to overtake then caught by the second flick back the other way??
That was my take on it too this morning. Perhaps the Porsche driver was coming up behind the accelerating Megabusa in anticipation of slingshotting past, when suddenly the Mega hit its rev limiter (it's comparatively low geared) and the planned move got much too cramped, they swerved out too hard, over-corrected, panicked and locked her up into the wall. Easy for those not in the car to speculate of course but seeing that front wheel stay locked up the whole way into the wall makes me think it may still have been avoidable if they'd eased off the brakes, flicked the steering into the skid a bit and fed in a bit of power before smartly catching the following correction. The 'two feet in' thing is great for maintaining a predictable trajectory - especially during spins - but when your car is still roughly pointing down the track in your direction of travel, better outcomes are still up for grabs.
That Megabusa driver was very lucky that the Porche's lip destroyed itself on the open front wheel rather than on his head. Yes, worst time for the wife to grab your arm is in an emergency (unless you're on foot and slipping off a cliff).
Main thing is just to pass the test and complete a declaration of medical fitness. Will need to do mine soon too.
Read and rope-learn Appendix A, P & Z of the Motorsport Manual.
Further to Neil's email - no, we can ask nicely and make a time with Terry, or you can just contact MSNZ Auckland office and just attend the exam slot.
I'm pretty excited too Paul. Not sure of progress in Pirongia but in Kohi she's all go. Wet weekend = more garage time. First layup to reinstate the edge roll. The seats are polyester resin so I am using that this time instead of epoxy. Will see if things swell up this time.....
Used a plasticine sausage to form the edge roll then glassed over. Worked a treat. Three layups ought to do it.
.....was going to delete the hump in the side bolsters but that meant taking too much away from the original shell. I am not that happy about the profile from the hump to the top so I might straighten that out a little with a profiled foam sliver then glass over that.
nice skills Dave. With this amount of effort this car is going to be a keeper isn't it??
I've got a terrible track record there. The fun part for me is in the dreaming and doing. I'm hoping that the car will be weird enough to hold my interest for a good while. Then i'll buy Paul's new C3 after he sorts it.
I was just thinking the other day when I lopped the tops off those race buckets, that a Lollipop seat would be a lot easier to make than the ones I'm doing. I'll save that for a period G series hotrod build one day. Paul, lollipops with leather and Pasha inserts in the C3?
You have a Lollipop don't you graeme? That sounds like a weird question.
