Yeah the GT4 and Spyder market wasn’t driven by flippers. At all.

I've had five 911's over the past 25 years.
I wasn't in the market for another 911.
Drove the "T" with MT.
I fell in love and bought it.
I didn't and currently don't care about resale, limited production, parts bin or whatever you want to label it.
For some reason the car just works beautifully, I still can't explain exactly why.
Those who haven't driven one with a MT, please do.
Those of you who have driven one, you probably understand what I'm talking about.

I see T as being very unique in that it comes standard with more enthusiast focused standard equipment and options. When optioned properly it’s one of lightest 911s and is affordable.

i also see turbo as adding torque dimension that some of GT cars don’t provide. Makes a very practical road car that can go to track and hold its own with some very capable cars.

The 911T is definitely a Porsche enthusiast car. I think it would make a perfect DD. The concept is a great one and it is not for all people. Unfortunately, it is not selling as well as Porsche hoped and there many sitting on dealer lots. I personally think it is a little overpriced, but I guess all Porsche products are. The dealers like to call it a baby GT3 which it is definitely not. In the end it’s still a cool car.

I think it is the manual transmission. The dealer I am getting my T from says he can sell 4 to 6 PDK cars for every 1 stick. I went thru this with my cayman. It was a 6MT that I tried to sell myself. Every body that showed interest turned away from it because they wanted the PDK. Frankly I think it goes back to the flipper mentality. So many people today buy Porsche with a spec they think will make it sell quickly in a year. instead of settling them up the way they truly want them set up.
I know my setup for my T is definitely not what the dealer would have done. But I am going to enjoy the heck out of it..

The majority of T models sitting on lots are loaded up PDK cars. That's why they're sitting as they're optioned up in a way counter to what the model was created for. That's why I had to order mine.

It looks like the take on GT3's is 70% MT and the take on T's is 90% MT. Clearly some think the MT's are fun albeit not the best choice for track. GT3 take is US, T is global.

There's a killer manual build on my local dealer's lot, but it is pricey. Very close to exactly how I specced it when I was playing around on the configurator six months ago. If anyone's looking for a performance option manual T, look at Porsche Monterey.

There are two on the Porsche Monterey site mentioned above... But as stated, those are HEAVY builds and the prices match.

and there will be another come December. But that one is mine and you can't have it. ;-)

When the starting premiss is "only a 911" we really do have first world problems. T Vs GT4 or Spyder, depends on so many things. Its like trying to compare apples, oranges and pears.

The GT4 is a fantastic car - great round a track, let down by lack of PDK for intense technical driving (e.g. road rally) and problematical 3rd gear failures. Well braked and nimble.
The Spyder has its own unique identity - visually stunning, light and nimble.
I would take the T over the above, but only if it had RAS and PDK - both of which maximise the capabilities of the engine and chassis (my preference is for performance).

Someone raised the question "why hasn't the T been a great seller" and others have noted there are plenty of Ts on lots (I have noticed the same). I don't think the issue is the car, but rather the way some/many dealers have specced them. Also, there are plenty of savy Porsche buyers around that understand how Porsche structure pricing and performance and also know exactly what they want to trade off for their main use (plenty on here that have multiple Porsche sports cars for that reason).

If you look at the above graph - it compares performance, 0 - 160kmh and price (aussie dollars). The data are direct from the Porsche Australia web site as is the MSRP for the same post code (all PDK). The correlation between performance and price is clear (this is well known). I looked at a T that was priced at $AUD290k (sunroof, PDK and other fruit) at which point you would be better off getting an S, the same applies to the S and GTS.

I think Porsche gets pretty cute with their marketing which doesn't help e.g. the shorter overall gearing and lockable diff of the T - this is true, but true with reference to the base. Likewise the S and GTS have shorter gearing than the base and either electronically controlled locking rear diff or mechanically controlled locking rear diff as standard (depending on transmission choice). The GT3 has the shortest gearing of the lot (e.g. shorter than the T, S and GTS).

Basically it comes down to this - not only do you get more performance as you move up the "price ladder" you also get access to more options and performance fruit.

Thus the issue for the T and for that matter any over specced lot car, is the price performance trade off, which at a certain point means buyers will look at the next model up, exactly as Porsche would want .

For porsche buyers that are not that knowledgeable about All the 911 variations the T was not covered that well on launch except for the industry mags. As a result many dealers were left with allocations which they in many cases did a poor job specking and now that the cars are out and in demand the poorly specked cars sit.

Sounds like Porsche failed in their internal marketing/communications to dealer if even their own dealers apparently did not understand the T at the time they spec'd the cars sitting on the lot.
