I doubt anyone here has been following the build of KMR RSR 001 on the 993 board but it must simply be seen to believed. This is build by Kelly Moss Motorsports and Rothsport Racing (engine) and owned by a wealthy New Zealander (Mark Whyman CEO of a Fashion Company in HK) who races it in America. Its as fast as the modern 991 GT3 RSR cars. The thread is worth a read if you are bored. We are all awaiting the final spec but I believe its a 4.0L pushing 450+ bhp. Not bad for the old 3.6 designed bottom end!

My father was a salesman at Monaco's for quite a few years before moving on to Giltraps, I have many fond memories of delivering cars all over NZ, which sparked my interest in Porsches.

Thanks for that build link Macca. Watched most of the racing and will come back to the rest of the thread later this evening. Fantastic brakes. Really nice build / restoration of an awesome car.

Arent the brakes just something. Interestingly they dont look like the PCCBs I see on the road cars! The car is just a mega build. I expect the final ticket woulent have been much shy of 400K NZD. The engine alone would have been around 100K. Im guessing this will come in around 1000KG, 450 bhp, 330lbft and super quick due to throttle response, brakes and the awesome chassis/suspension. Better still it just looks the bomb...

Back to the one that got away this morning. Tip vs manual c2 appears to be $15,000 differential. Would this close the gap?

No!

You are just changing the location of where you can manually change the gears (which is kinda irrelevant in the tipo given an auto box??), not the numbers of cogs (i.e. from 4 to 5/6)

Very much an aspirational build for me. "Mega build" covers it.

When did Monaco Motors and Clarks close? Must have been early 90's.

Noel Fava retired around 1995, but stopped mainly trading in English and Euro sports cars in the late 80's. For the last few years he was dealing in Jap imports as more profitable.

Who remembers Stanton Motors in Tauranga?? I remember seeing a brand new 924 around 85 for $64K!!!!

.

Met both Noel and his brother Gerald around that time. They had a brace of Diablo's at the warehouse in Penrose. The one that stood out was a blue lightweight version. There was a purple VT as well.

My introduction / indoctrination of Porsche came via my Dad bringing home new Porsche catalogues in 80's. The thing that sealed it was Colin Giltraps 959.

I was in the bay as a boy. Stanton was a regular Friday night visit for me after work. I actually do recall that new 924, it was red, right? The showroom was odd, down 11th ave. In about 85 Feo's son Nathan started up as a BMW dealer. My old man took one of the first deliveries, a 2 door 323i. He only had it a year, he must have forgot he had 4 kids when he ordered it, we had to squash in that one. Nathan Stanton had a quite new red 930 turbo on the floor for a bit in about 86 /87, that just blew my mind.
