Thanks mate. it was 2.99 USD just downloaded it. Kit looks really good. I see they have a NZ distributor so hope they dont shove me off there for an inflated price. Will email them and find out overnight. Would be great to use with the race jack on the front wheels. Changing the cambers with the plates is easy but not 100% precise so this would really help...

Re Go Pro 3+. I understand the new gopro has an issue with focussing on anything more than a few meters away, apparently it's been optimised for closer field of view video than the preceding models. They are being criticised for it but may have a firmware fix. Slightly better battery life though.

I have the GoPro 3 Black. After much reading its apparent the 3+ is sharper for closer objects but trades a little sharpness at distance (fixed depth of field is set closer). Im not sure for our type of usage it would make much difference.

The GoPro has the sharpest lens of any POV cameras Ive seen reviewed. That doesnt mean to say it has the kindest or most accurate colours but I cant deny its definitely "sharper" than most others on the market.

New offerings like the Sony have the advantage of GPS where you can overlay very easily the speed you are travelling (current, max and average all in the same frame) and overlay a circuit map for position. This is a useful feature. The "vibration reduction" system in the Sony is also impressive.

You cant go wrong with a GoPro but for our specific usage I cant help but think the Sony is a much better fit. The sound is WAY better (infact many have said the sound is better than a $200 dedicated sure microphone!). The battery lasts longer. It has a 50mps write speed in the maximum pro format (2.7K approx) and the actualy unit itself is much easier to use (larger LCD screen easier buttons). Its splashproof right out of the box so you can have it on the exterior of the car and be caught out in the rain. It also can use a tripod mount. Lastly but importantly are the accessories - they are hands down twice as beefy and solid as the GoPro lego set. It also has wifi if thats your thing. Best yet the price is the same as GoPro 3+.

I needed a second unit so will give the Sony a go and use my GoPro more for underwater stuff for which I bought it a few years back.

No new toys for me. Simple maintenance and targeted use. On a roll so far, CCS and Autolign have done work on my Turbo 3.6 struts for free. Should have them back in this weekend.

Weighing up whether to do the rears myself. I have bought a second race jack just in case.

The real splurge this year will be the NITT. I've decided to make it a full four day event for Donna and Me. Maybe we should look at a track and a tour option? That may get more of the RSG out there

Dont be so hard on yourself John. A new trolley jack is a new toy!

Cant wait for NITT it will be epic!

Why dont we take a second track day at Taupo? Wouldnt it be nice ti have two full track days there? So much to learn and afterall its the 2nd longest track in NZ.

Or we could kick off renting the track at HD for a full day privately and rent 3-4 apartments to stay overnight hen head off next day at a leisurely pace for taupo?

Im in for any duration event any format. Will take missus + 2 cars and plenty of room....

Thank you. Paul and I are back at home to pack and get a good night's sleep. Picking him up at 6:30 in the morning for our run out to Bombay for the start. Chris has a problem with his "check engine" light coming on. Hopefully he's able to get it sorted overnight. The engine wasn't making great power either. Felt lethargic. Fingers crossed for him,

Just got home. Dan came to our rescue and the car is back in form. The billet diverter valves were playing up again. Producing plenty of boost, 1.4 bar, but no punch and triggering an error message. Porsche factory valves back in and heaps of power again. Enjoying a nice dinner and wine at home with Pete staying the night before we head out early in the morning. The weather looks great, it's going to be an awesome weekend.

Hope you all have a great drive over the next few days. Be safe and enjoy. Look forward to seeing some footage!

As an aside, I'm in the process of signing up with Prestigio and need to get a training day or 2 under my belt so I can get sign off on insurance for the track. Any guidance on who to do this with? Was planning on joining the PCNZ session on the 25th but the event is full (and I have family in town that day). Figure CCS is the best bet?

Mike Eady's courses are pretty good, I've done level 1 and 2 and some BMW club days with him. Calendar for upcoming days is at the bottom of this page: http://www.tracktime.co.nz/bmw-driver-training/

Good luck on the Targa/Tour guys, feeling very jealous. Hoping to come and spectate somewhere at some point this weekend!
