Wrong page mate! Have you got your name down for that one yet?

That'd be the least of the issues IMO. The awful short-shift it has can be swapped back to stock trivially. The GT3s don't have the drivability issues with LWFWs that the 964 has, so not sure what the issue there would be...

It was actually owned by the dealership until the 14th June... odd.

Macca, I've sent you an email.

I'd say the other tire worth looking at is the new Yokohama AD08R- supposed to be same pace as the Z221 and actually cheaper.

I remember Chris saying something about them re-releasing the tire with a new compound that's between medium and soft and they're supposed to be the bees knees?

I'm happy to pay a premium for tires that are readily available in the right compounds.

This is what I was quoted for the AD08-R by Hyper...

235/40/18 $379ea, 265/35/18 $449ea

I've been looking at the AD08Rs as a trackable (especially for wet) road tyre. I don't think it's in the same class as the Z221s in terms of grip. Despite the name, it's not an R-compound as such. Sounds like Pilot Sport Cups 2s are finally coming available in 18", so I might end up going that way instead.

Edit: Are you sure you're not thinking of the Yokohama A048s? They're the R-compound track tyres. I think Chris B had a set on his 996T and hated them, but they were hard compound.

Haven't heard anything re: new compounds on the Dunlops, hopefully Chris can fill you in.

Were they available in NZ? When I asked in February before the SITT, they said they'd be available around June/July.

Thanks Sean and Jake. Got both your PMs. Just working through a few options now. Really appreciate the help...

The AD08R is listed with tirerack as an extreme sports tyre not strictly an R comp.

Matt. Id be interested in the MPSC2 as well in 18 but I havent seen them yet on tirerack (and they would be too expensive to buy locally otherwise). Id be very surprised if they covered my 225/235 + 265 fitments range as I suspect they will be targeting the later 996/7 GT3 market sizes.

The DZ03G interest me and I would try them but not at $2700. I paid far less for my 18 MPSS landed. The Nitto seems to have a a good rap and could be worth considering if a full set of Z221 cant be procured....

Thanks for all the ideas guys....

Sorry Matt, you are right. I was looking at the AD08 R as a Targa Tire. The pricing and availability was end of last year, haven't checked this year.

When I priced the DZ03Gs I was quoted $2,500 for our sizes in medium. If you got them in medium compound you could probably do some math versus the wear rate on the $2,000 odd Z221s and justify the extra 25% for the longevity.

Macca - missing many them, but another data point on r-comp comparisons. DZ03Gs rated well, second in test:

Thanks Walt. Some surprising results in there. Shows how subjective and vehicle specific some of this can be....

Winner seems to have a history of BMW and Porsche ownership.

It was a nice enough example but will finish its days on the track or targa as dd manners not there. A bit too track focused with a LWF and tight gearbox.

Not sure how they will settle the sale as owner passed away.

I'm not too sure what happened there either... I bid and saw him bidding against himself figured he wanted it more than me.

I can't stretch to a mint GT3 one so figured it was worth at least trying for since it's standard 996 Mk 2 money. I had been in the car round Manfield with Jon once in the past.

The dealership and finance company were confident all parties were on board to ensure the car would be sold as planned.

It went fast and stopped on a dime. That said, Simon stalled it multiple times in traffic and the shift in and out of 2nd was difficult. Not sure what it needed to make it all good. I walked away when Steve R reminded me how quickly a car can escalate in cost soon losing bargain status. I've been there done that.
