It's been a bit quiet around the neighbourhood without Herman. When do you get it back John?

Chris loaned me his set of 4x caster jacks to try out today to use to park the C2 across the back of our garage. After some mucking around we devised a technique to back the car in with a 3-4 point turn and it worked without the casters. A more convenient solution.

As Doug wrote, hopefully on Tuesday. Just over four weeks of waiting. Neither Chris nor I had any sense it would take this long, otherwise we would have thought of alternatives. We certainly won't put faith in PV again.

When Herman's back he will be off the road for some time. I have refurbed the RUF Bilsteins (they are essentially brand new condition now) and intend to return the front end to factory fresh condition. New control arm bushes, tie rods, ball joints, ARB bushes etc. I'll also check out the condition of other parts up front. I will do all of the work myself and will be slow as a wet week as I'm bound to mis-order, find the need for special tools etc, be time poor etc, but I'm backing myself.

My original plan was to do this with Herman from the start but lost my confidence after the oil line mishap and had no time between all of the various events. From now on I won't be time pressured, if Herman isn't ready, then I'll just drive out to events in another car and watch.

Longer term this will give me a real sense of achievement and emotional investment in the car. If I can fix Skyhawks I can fix a 24 year old car!

Tony Rundle flew them in the '70s. I fixed them in the '80s. Lanham (PCNZ Wellington member) was a ranking officer at Tony's time and was Commanding Officer at the Squadron when I was there.

Very cool picture John. Must have been a great time to be involved with these planes.

I do know what a Skyhawk is....... just pulling your leg.

It was a shame the Labour Govt dismantled the strike force.

Fun times indeed. If you were on Squadron long enough you got a ride in the two seater. I went on two sorties. The best one was where we acted as an enemy attacking a navy ship so it could hone its weapon system tracking (a Navy guy put a screwdriver through the control board so they had to replace it). Did figures of eight over the Gulf. Only 4G turns but that was enough for me. Never been a good passenger.

Big attraction in those days were the trips overseas....Angeles City next to Pinatubu...say no more.

The day Labour was elected I resigned.

As for the planes. 964 mindset to quality and a great noise and smell. To this day I get nostalgic if I have to walk across Tarmac with the smell of burning Jet A1.

These are genuine deep six fuchs. 15 x 6. Quite rare. You can get deep 7's but they are very rare. I think it was 72 or 73 or something when they went away from deep 6's to flat 6's. The flat 6's don't have as much depth to the lip and are noticeably different (not as good) but when you get to 7's and 8's and up there is plenty of lip showing then. 6 inchers are on the narrow side but will be spaced off the hub to get the stance right. A narrow body car can take 7" all round without flaring guards. I will probably also get a set of the later flat 7 fuchs which look good on an early car because they show a bit of rim anyway.
Interestingly the Fuchs on John's 964 are more akin to a deep 6 Fuchs than the later flat 6 (and bigger) Fuchs. If you look at the florets, the fat end curves back inwards creating a deeper look.

And that concludes my lesson. Was just a short time a ago that I thought a fuch was a fuch.
