Must confess even Ive been thinking about it! It looks a lovely example. I could write you a definitive list of what and what not to do with it John. Also I have some factory heated hardback sports seats in that exact interior colour sitting in storage as good as new just waiting for that car...

Someone was keen enough to Carjam it. I've also been having unholy thoughts about the 964 C4 cab on Trademe. I'd break it up, taking the sports seats, bonnet and spoiler just for a start.

I want it too. The 993 or the $70k GT3? Two manual 964 coupes or the 993? No logic in this Porsche gambit. I'd love to hotrod a 993 though but they will likely never get cheap enough. The saddest day of my life was when Porsche started making Tipo's, the second saddest was when the Cayenne came out. But I'm softening and wouldn't a 993 tipo be a great daily driver at sensible money compared to a six speed? A tipo 993 or a 997? The gap is closing. Bloody hell, the possibilities are exciting.

Which 993 on Trademe John? There's a bunch of them there. They illustrate the value of manuals over tippys by the looks.
You could always break the mould and get some fresh air and speed through the corners in this - ha ha http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-630651396.htm

Agree, there is no logic, and yes that 993 tipo with the track friendly fruit for $39,900 looks relatively attractive as well.

Yup - that's why most of us have road tires and a spare set of rims for track tires. 221's are not really road legal - a cop would do you for driving with them and CCS would be really pushing the limits giving you a WOF with them.

You are just going to have to change tires instead of rims........

P.s car looking amazing in photos Macca.

I've done the whole trying to run race tires (and brakes) on the road and would never do it again. Separate rims and tyres fit for purpose. Brakes as well. Would rather change to race pads and back out again unless I could find a non noisy compound that was suitable for both environments.

Most race guys reading this would ultimately say "buy a race car" when we are trying to make road cars into "race cars" with race tyres, stripping interior etc. For me I can't afford to own both a race car and nice Porsche road car so I'm happy running 1.20's at Manfield knowing ultimately I'm in a "road car".

Eh? They're just as road legal as any other DOT approved/E marked tire. No different from running Pilot Sport Cups.

Thanks mate.

I checked the legality of Hankook 221's with VINZ and as Matt says these are a Dot rated tyre and 100% legal in NZ. CCS WOF'd them on that basis without question.

I agree with Jamie's statement 100%. I've decided to leave the brake pads standard as I don't want the hassle of squealing pads, poor cold pad material braking etc on the road.

Jamie I remember when you took the family on a holiday in your 911 to Auckland from Kapiti and back on R compounds. I think you must have all been deaf for days after LOL!

Like Paul says it will be "tyres on" and "tyres off" for me dependent on the event I'm in NZ using the car for, until I can make my mind up on another set of wheels. Ive been looking since Jan and I just havent seen anything that's gone "wow" at me and also been light, single piece forged, and aesthetically appealing.

In the meantime Ill have to learn to drive the car sideways in the wet in Auckland and take care on the way to the race track. No different to be perfectly honest than any owner of a 997 GT3 on its factory MPSC.

Mmm. I smell a lemon.....

IMO it pays to buy the absolute best car you can. I know a few people out there will feel the silver NZ MT 993 is a bit pricey at 68k. They may even find a high mileage, imported, no history 45K one on TM next week - but I guarantee it would owe them $68K within 12-18 months and it will never been as low KM or as good a providence than the $68k one....

FYI. Prestigio will not insure a car on the track unless it has legal WOF'able tyres.....

Also dont forget to advise them soon about your intentions for NITT in writing as per their policy.
