Wish I could join you guys. My tires are on the way out and can't bare to buy new ones here. On that note, is there any value in a group order from tire rack?

Well worth buying overseas but doubt a group buy would result in a lower price, even if you could herd the cats. FYI I bought in N-rated Michelin Sports for my 996TT (standard sizes) for $2,200 the set. You can bring in non N-rated tyres for less.

Chris. Nice plan assume cayman for targa duties. There is a written of 997.1 gt3 on TM for 30k may be worth buying and doing an engine transplant. 415 bhp dry sump mezger in cayman body for 70k would make a really awesome tarmac ralley and track car. Better ye it wouldn't have to be a stripper as you'll have plenty of power to weight and none of the M96/97 issues...
NZskater. You should beable to order and land the latest michelin super sports for $2k for tyre rack and the will be here within a week. Stay away from the track if you want to conserve rubber

Christopher, have you sourced H4 headlights yet with RHD glass? If you get stuck I have two lights I swapped out of the Turbo 3.6 you can use while you work it out. One of the mirror bowls lost its shine so I replaced both. They are not cheap new but clear eyes make a car.

Thanks guys for the Targa info everyone. Good to go in informed. As mentioned, I'm not keen to put a non-removeable cage in so that makes it pretty unlikely I'll be using my current car. It's an itch I need to scratch though so it will probably become a 3 year project instead or maybe I'll source a renter.
Like John, I just got another set of tyres in from Tirerack again for the 996T - at under $1200 for another set of Sumitomo HTRZIIIs, I need show them no mercy (trackable road tyres, hard wearing and good in wet and dry - suits my daily driver with a fair bit of camber).

Thanks for the info on tyre importation guys, appreciate it. Will place an order at tirerack today.
Noticed a 993 Targa on Great North Road, ended up taking it for a decent test drive (looking for a car for my partner). Great fun. Amazing how familiar yet different it felt to the 997T. Unsure if I can convince her it's the car for her though...
