Yip. Dont get too excited tho Jason as no one in NZ will ever be paying that kind of money for a 964 C2 of a long long while yet. We are still struggling to move 3.6T at 55-60K GBP when they sell for 75-85K GBP all day long in the UK. It would appear our cars are not of particular interest to the UK dealers either.
On the bright side we have the cheapest old Porsches on the planet! All the better for us should we write one off at the track enjoying it the way it was intended to be driven! Imagine if your 964 became worth 200K, how would you feel. I bet a bit nervous on the track. I know my C2 gives me much more enjoyment than my RS did for that reason...

Three Wheelin'
Looking good so far. Still a couple of little things I want to do on it but the funny thing is I don't feel the need to drive the pants off it on a weekend spin. somehow feeling the weight transfer of the car on narrower tyres and the slick 915 gearchange at 3/4 pace seems very satisfying. Just means you need another car to thrash on track/targa

Subsequently the 993 is being prepared for SITT duties. I will be home at Xmas for 2-3 weeks to do some touring in t and a few Sunday drives, maybe even a Uncles and some final shake down before giving final settings to CCS to do on the car in Feb before the SITT. I want a simple drive, track, drive solution that's workable for touring (my wife will come + 3 weeks of gear - yes we will have our roof rack system and roof pod!!!!! Not kidding - bought it 3 years ago designed for the 993 for a SI holiday that never happened!!!!). I also want a car that will be quick around the track and robust. I think I can achieve all that. The weakest link will be the driver (and lack of any knowledge at all of the tracks!).
So the GT3 will miss the SITT. But in answer to your questions when it finally arrives in NZ in Sept next year it will be driven within an inch of its like and by that time I do believe I will be a much more competent driver able to push it within hopefully 80% of its capability on track and Targa. Yes Ill probably look to take it on Targa 2014....

996 Turbo comparison times - Hampton Downs
1.10.6 = 996T ~550HP Motorsport Services racecar on slicks, pro driver-
[Slicks, ECU tune, Exhaust, turbos?, ICs, aero, suspension, weight-stripped etc - lap 199 of the 2011 Racetech 6 hour] - Andre Heimgartner
1.12.2 = 996T ~550 HP Motorsport Services racecar on slicks -
[Slicks, ECU tune, Exhaust, turbos?, aero, suspension, stripped etc - lap 234 of the 2011 12 hour] - Denis Roderick/David Glasson/Aaron Harris
1.17.85 = 996T tiptronic 420HP, stock on R-comp tyres -
[Dunlop Direzza 03G R-comps, rotors, Pagid yellow pads, brake fluid] - Chris_B
1.18.56 = 996T tiptronic 420HP, stock on street tyres, endurance pads -
[Sumitomo HTRZIII street tyres (300 wear rating), Pagid yellow pads, Motul RBF600 fluid, fully loaded bar passenger seat removed) - 996TNZ (Walter)
Andre is claimed to hold the Porsche lap record for Hampton, though I suspect that he may have set that in the 997 RSR that caught fire 8 minutes out from winning the following year’s 12-hour endurance.
Who’s to know what time Andre could wring out from your street 996T or mine but I would be impressed if it were much lower than a 1.16 since slicks alone should be worth about 3 secs over our street tyres, with averaging another second or so each for HP, suspension, aero, and weight loss. He set that 1.10.6 in an enduro config rather than a time attack one though, so maybe someone's slung one around even quicker?

A good aftermarket exhaust is worth about 15HP at the revs that matter on the 996T but I don't know if Chris's car is based on the stock 420HP K16s or the 450HP K24s (ie the x50 option or the TurboS) but will edit my post to suit if he lets me know + whether its a manual or tip.

When does competency become a fault? When it takes a mediocre driver like me and makes me feel like Michael Schumacher, but in a Lamborghini not a Ferrari. The car spackled over the rough spots and imperfections in my driving, allowing me to go more quickly than I would in a lesser car.
Doesn’t sound like a fault does it?
If the goal were to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible it wouldn’t be. When driving on the street absolute speed is not as important as relative speed or imagined speed. In most situations a driver is unable to use even a fraction of the capability of an average car. The Lamborghini would be unfazed at two or three times the speed limit. This excess capacity removes the pleasure that comes from piloting a car on a twisty road at a speed which will not result in jail time. The Lamborghini is simply too good. The Ferrari, with less sure handling and 125 fewer horsepower is more fun to drive.
There was more to it than that. The Lambo with all wheel drive and traction control does more than its fair share of the driving. It provides an unfair advantage. An unfair advantage in what? I am not sure but it does. It should be the driver who makes the car not the car which makes the driver. While the all wheel drive certainly contributes to the cars phenomenal grip and does a heroic job of harnessing the cars power, I believe it makes the car drive heavily and dulls the feedback through the steering wheel causing the Gallardo to lack life. If an accountant or business consultant could be embodied in a car it would drive like this; very precise and very solid but without art or poetry.
Put simply I don't think I will improve with the 996TT as quickly as I can with the 964 C4. I want to be a better driver before I add PASM and 170hp to the mix.

I learnt a lot about the car on the NITT, so should get a bit more out of it next time I have it at Hampton Downs, I would definitely hope to be in the 1.16's.
