Jake - here's an easy intro option for Hampton on the 15th if you're still temptable:
" - PCNZ Circuit Sprints – “Parade Laps”. Join in the fun at the Circuit Sprints by participating in ‘Parade’ laps around the Hampton Downs race track.
This is an opportunity for those who do not want to participate in the actual Circuit Sprints event, but would like the opportunity to drive 7 laps of the Hampton Downs race track in their road car in a convoy led by a Pace car."
Next to a Driver's Ed day, this would be the easiest and safest way to get a first-time feel for the HD track.
Also plenty of exhausts to check out that day if you haven't run with one for your car yet.
If you'll be attending anyway, I'd also consider pre-registering for the Regularity trials on later that day and then decide if you want to take part in them once you've done those guided Parade laps - or even after watching the first Regularity run. Just NZ drivers licence and helmet - which can be pre-hired for $15 - needed for the those I believe.
As Paul pointed out, you need only drive as fast as you're comfortable in the Regularity. It is not a race and no one is allowed to go faster than a 1:28 anyway (about 10 secs slower than I pedalled my 996T around it when stock) so pretty much no-one gets lapped by the front of the field in the 4 or so lap run. Everyone nominates their own target time which decides where they start on the grid so you could pick, say, a 1:40 or something for your 997T that would give you a slower car in front to follow comfortably and little traffic behind. Paul - please correct me if any of that info is wrong.
You would need a PCNZ membership if you don't already have one, but it always seems to pay for itself just in parts discounts from Continentals (not sure but Giltraps may have a similar deal) so is a no-brainer anyway in my book.

I was black flagged at HD in the PCNZ Regularity trial when I circulated one lap at 1.23. That was only my second day at the track. The 996/7 TT is a very competent car to run a few laps on road tyres and it was a blast to plant boot on the main straight and not watch the radar. A very safe environment.

I'm ordering a high accuracy tyre gauge. It's a Cecomp 0-100 psi temperature compensating gauge with heavy duty ball chuck and a bleeder valve, accurate to 0.1 - 0.25 psi. Overkill, but it's the best you can get. Used by NASCAR/Indy/etc.

Anyone else interested in one of these before I pull the trigger? Looking at just under $500NZ landed, less if I can sneak it past the tax man.

Hi Matt. Was about to push the button on this one. 359 USD. So around $500 landed as you say. Tell me what you think by way of comparison. It is also compensated and replaces the need for pyrometer which was of interest to me as Id like to start measuring the heat across the tyre so that I can understand what I need to do in way of optomising caster and camber. Im not sure if the one you are looking at includes pyrometer for temp compensation? Yours looks great quality. I wanted to cover two devices in one but also open to your unit if you think it compares well. Have a look at the Longacre 53050 on their site and tell me what you think. Its also 0-100 psi and accurate to 0.1 psi....
