Any Rennlisters from New Zealand?
1993/94 was a difficult time for Porsche and I understand that there were a few cars moving between the model years, including the '94 Turbo 3.6 as delivered to the US Market.
In the late 90's it was generally accepted that a '92 onward model 964 was well worth looking out for as it had proper engine gaskets and other enhancements. I think that had waned over the years. I would buy on condition far more than model year.
As for that Cab, I wish someone would export it. The 964 market has more than its fair share of roughies. What I'd like to see now is a few rough C4s come on market.....
BTW:The above said, the cab VIN is a '92 model...

Classic. Its not even a 1993 according to the vin! Probably caught up in the Asia crisis and built 1993 but not first registered HK (or Sing?) till 1994. Alot of that happened back then due to Asia fiscal meltdown IIRC
You are right John. Although IIRC alot of product around that time was built on MY93 chassis vINs but exported to USA as 1994 MY (i.e. the fudged it). They did the same with the 993. LHD US shipments didnt begin till early 1994 and technically these were MY94 but in the USA youll never see a car advertised as MY94 as every one of them was recorded as MY94 even tho build in 1994 MY! I think this may have been a run on form those 1994"MY" 3.6Ts they pushed in which were built on ROW MY1993 vin chassis. I may be worng as my internet si so slow today I dont care to check on google and my memory is old.

I heard the MT 997.2 C2S X51 sold today?
Looks like the MT 997.1 TT at CCS may find a home shortly too.
If anyone knows anyone who is after a 997TT Black, MT, NZ new then PM me and Ill put you in touch with the owner.

Imagine if someone could develop a re fit kit, for the tipo for the 964/993, bringing it right up to date. Single clutch system would be fine, paddle operated, additional ratio (perhaps split the 2 & 3 using a secondary gear to make it a 6 speed. With modern techniques you could probably bring it up to a point where it would at least equal the MT variant. With the price delta on the cars even if it were a 10-15K conversion it would be viable...
I've priced up multiple options for converting to a g50/20 6 speed and they all come in around $15-20k by the time you pay labour on top (different storey of you can diy it)
Geezz John. Are they 27MB picture!!! You need to re-size for us guys using PC.
Exhaust valves look ok as do guides. Plugs look ok? Exit chamber looks pretty clean. On the head side those cam cover gasket seats/seals look gungy. Might be where your leaking is happening. Lots of metallurgy going on in those lifter pockets to. By way of comparison, Have attached a few pics of my 993 heads when we changed to elephant foot adjusters in 2011. Might be a totally different design but the gaskets came off clean and have never leaked but I change the covers every 10 years. Might be a different design. Anyway maybe new covers with gaskets and the special nuts?

I am using my Iphone I take pics and posting with Garage Talk. Obviously not working for those on PCs. Those valves are the inlet side.
Not sure why there is the gunge on the gaskets. I don't want any muck going in. I have new gaskets but the original covers look ok. I have left it all for now as there is a bunch of stuff to source, not least of all a valve lash adjuster so I can get perfect adjustment.
Right now I seem to have two leaks. One is evidently an overfill so not likely to be repeated. The other is the rear main seal. I will have to take the clutch and flywheel out for that. The seal itself is $30.

I was referring to your bottom picture. that is exhaust side no?
Yes I use an iPad too. However I use a PC for posting and always re-size my pictures first. Posting full 5MB pictures is great but downloading them especially on iphone data plan is slow unless you re size them. Because the site is now playing up with large pictures (if you are on a PC you would need a 27 inch monitor to see the ones you posted) many thread son RL are now trying to ban the use of large images that haven't been re-sized. Its becoming a real headache. I cant use the iPhone an longer and now the PC is useless as soon as someone puts up a 5MB file. My ipad if OK but I rarely ever write a response form it as the spell check is painful and I dont keep any heavy picture resources on it for posting.
Whinge over.
Rear RMS is a common one. If the valve covers are the plastic ones they deform slightly with age and heat. they can look ok but be a bit warped. Frankly I think you can probably get away with re using them once those channels and gaskets are replaced but Rennline now make some nice alloy ones which are no longer expensive and have the ignition lead clips on them and all the factory stuff. They weren't available when I did mine last in 2011 and the ones that were were silver or red anodized and very expensive but Rennline ones are cheaper and better as they have the lead clips and they come in black. Might be worth considering. If your gonna do it might as well come out of it with a part that will last a lifetime and looks better to?
