agree with Doug, may regret it later but the issue is its hard to have similar cars for similar purposes, best to get different horses for different courses and what Macca uses them for is quite similar, gt3 can do everything the 993 does - and tour better as well

Has anyone done the Contis Porsche Driver Training? Is it proper training or an expensive glorified track day?

No. I've done the official porsche driver training at Mt Cotton in Queensland. Better value to hire Racing Ray in your car for a track day IMO. Others chip in.....

CCS have been great with the Q7. When it landed they must have picked up the fact the car had just been registered and sent me a letter offering a free diagnostic check. I got it fully serviced just before 2 years was up and they checked all warranty items. They then organised a 2 year extended warranty (at my cost) as if it was a car purchased through them and have also registered me, at no charge, for free roadside assist which comes with ongoing CCS servicing discounts etc.

Bottom line, they have embraced the opportunity to service it rather than rejected it because it wasn't sold through them or in NZ.

Thanks Doug. I just got confirmation that the current offerings are track laps only with an instructor for each lap. Dinner afterwards.

I'm more interested in 'proper' training as i can achieve what they offer as per your suggestion above much cheaper

Thats really positive. Could be worth a crack importing something. Those numbers knocked around with the 100k landed Cayman's look very interesting. I've never given Cayman's a second thought until you see a new shape for a hundy.
Surfing Pistonheads see's the earlier 350 bhp 991's at a around mid 50's GBP which looks like value landed here. Or the DFI 997's which seem to hardly exist in NZ. Early 997's are just dipping under 20k GBP.

Now this is only heresay, and simply something that popped up in FB but the nice red SC that was recently snapped up may be again for sale. It may be a rash comment by the owner or he's trying to flip it. Also i don't have any details on price but could PM him if you are interested and didn't see the post

IMHO, the CCS level 1 (maybe 2?) course is good value for newbies and helps satisfy insurers but if you're already a track rat then private coaching or at least a higher level course would be the go.

Did a level one or two CCS Performance Driving course within a month of getting my car. Run by Downforce with top quality drivers (think Jonny Reid, Earl Bamber, Matt Halliday etc) but aimed as an introduction to performance and track driving as opposed to a real clinic. I'd swatted up beforehand and the only track pointer I got was that I could afford to take the sweeper faster, but the confidence of having an experienced driver riding shotgun while you're starting to test you and your car's limits on track was worth the price of admission for a newbie.

A fun day with track laps, emergency lane change, gymkhana-like bent sprint and some random skidpad driving. Podiumed and took a nice model GT3 trophy home. Jonny had me do an informal hot lap about 10 guided laps in and I later learned it was around the 1:26 mark, so yes, there was plenty more time to be had. My second track visit was the PCNZ sprints and a 1.22 or so, so I guess I took his advice on board. Later got down to 1:18s on the same stock road config then went entry level r-comps which have saved a few more seconds, with maybe another 1 or 2 at most left to find before coaching and better rubber will be needed to get me about as far as the stock suspension allows.

Totally agree. Dedicated time with Stu or Ray would be money well spent. Just organize it for one of our track days.

I did the same Mt Cotton one as Doug and it was great for different reasons. Got to drive loads of cars, meet other Porsche-heads and treat it like a mini holiday.

Good value but I would pay more and get the best 3.4 'S' rather than the base 2.7.
