Given we haven't seen you in your car for almost 2 years - we all quietly thought you had turned into a bonnet polisher??

Well either that or a new 'love interest' or 2??

Two would be worth parking the P car for a while. Preferably "good friends" and both at the same time ;-P

I think the market has spoken on that 993. As you pointed out (rightly IMO) its over priced for the miles. I think it was priced fairly first time around. Mind you, its a dealer so they may negotiate down by 10k etc

A 996 comment referencing you thoughts a page or so back Macca.

996.1 any spec but especially GT3 with the real moby dick curvy whale tail ---- fantastic looker.
996.2 with cow eyes ------ porsches lowest design point in recent past. They had to fix the fried eggs which now look OK but rushed it. GT3's in 6.2 are passable but narrow body 996.2's just look wrong. The changes from .1 to .2 around the bumpers are very subtle but enough to make .2's a styling disaster. 996 turbo's and c4s's get away with it because of the gaping front bumper detail.

A lot actually comes down to stance, wheels and colour - any car looks good if set up right.
Look at Chris's white Cayman vs. a high ridin' dark grey 2.7 on stock wheels.

At Treble Cone today, snowing all day. I was impressed there was a 996 Turbo in the car park. I meant to take a photo but powder called. Can't imagine chains would fit too well!

So, Face Bookers....is there a secret handshake that I'm not aware of to join a group? I hit the button on the early 911 page but no action for a week or so. I reckon I'm legit enough owning an early car and all but I am joining under my female name which might throw them off a bit. And no I'm not getting a FB account.

Thanks mate. I enjoyed that. It was actually interesting about the old F1 track now a public highway too. Dan Prossier is also an accomplished presenter - think we will see more of him on Evo TV. The GT3 and the Speciale werent half bad either. I still lust after that Speciale aye, but actually Im feeling very privileged to be lucky enough to own second best...

Yes 996.2's are truely ugly cars - I just cry myself to sleep every night thinking I have to face this in the garage tomorrow morning.

Someone buy it off me please...........

Nobody's going to buy that ugly thing Paul, don't kid yourself. Anyone would be better off with a 2015 Corolla, Bluetooth, quicker on a B road, and has styling clues Porsche borrowed for the 991 GT3.

Haha Paul, it must be ghastly, how about a signature class Corolla plus cash my way. Only because I feel sorry for you.

Be quick, I may change my mind.

Paul. You didn't choose the car because it was the prettiest GT3, you chose it because as you said it was good value for money and within budget.

I believe the design language dyslexia David refers to is highlighted below. I agree with him on the bumper lines but believe its more pronounced on a silver car.

For what its worth I think the 996.2 GT3RS is a very fine looking car - one of the best looking GT3.

Remarkable as Dave says, what a colour difference makes (white hides the creases), stance (lower), black mirrors, aggressive (those front bumper oil cooler cut outs), more imaginative wing and coloring the wheels leaving a polished lip do for the shape. This is all simple stuff to do with a can of red plastic dip and some red vinyl you could do similar for your car (see the 991 GT3 done by the factory for a PAG executive - just colour changes and makes a silver car very interesting).

When these tyres are done I think I may paint my wheels red and also mirror base and rear wing blades too :-)

Heres one for sale on ebay.uk (996.1 GT3 with only 10,000 miles and loads of extras) with red wheels on silver looks quite good...

I spend a night spannering on Herman and Rennlist catches Pistonhead disease

Warwick, speaking of Herman, you are lucky you didn't end up helping with the engine drop, it's a slow process first time, with multiple trips to buy tools and in some cases make them. Thanks to Dave for the metal stock to make a transmission retainer. Today I need to make a plywood base for the ATV Jack so the engine doesn't tip or crush the heat exchangers when I drop it. The engine weighs 240kg so combined with the transmission this isn't a job you can manhandle. Done sensibly I think I will just need help to lift the rear when the engine is on the Jack.

Update on BB - we may have someone within the wider group willing to buy her, which is good because as much fun as pulling things apart is, I'd rather see her go for another 600 laps. Doug has her off the street this weekend so I don't end up with a no WOF no rego ticket (registration is in my name). If she sells, then the co-owners will get a capital repayment.
