Macca, thanks for the offer on the reversing sensors kit but I'll leave it as is for now. Just requires more care reversing.

One month ago it was business as usual with three 911s in my garage. Today there is one left, Herman, and a new to me Cayenne to keep him company. Not sure how that happened, it's a blur. Yes, the Turbo 3.6 is sold. It should be on UK roads in time for their Spring.
The car has been a part of my life for 13 years. It was purchased as a present to myself after 10 years working as an expat in a third world country. It sustained my spirits when I completed two more expat stints, including a close call with the Marriott bombing in Jakarta. It was always waiting for me in the lock up, started first time and has a leather smell that will remain with me forever. It's unique.
My career high was being Chief Risk Officer and I dare say the Turbo 3.6 will be my Porsche owning high.
The C4 provokes baiting comments from the 993 owners, whereas the Turbo 3.6 has elicited purchase offers from some of you. It was a short run stop gap model, which has the X factor. A combination of a drop dead gorgeous body and accessible power with all of the interior fruit.

John. A new chapter unfolds!
It's always sad to see something you loved so much going to a new home but its exciting to dream about "what's next". Richard (new owner) is excited to be the next keeper. You can't ask more than that.
So Herman is "it" in the meantime. Hopefully we get to see some more of him on the track soon. Sounds like you have some upgrades in store to put the 993 owners in there place, not that it appears there will be many of those - just mine for the odd appearance.
Why don't you bring Herman on 13 th. It would be great to have her run with my old girl (probably only time my 993 will be on track in 2015). Integras can wait.
Anyway onwards & upwards John. It's great to have owned such a car. We really are lucky people aye!

Macca will know this place, the lock up. The woman who ran it said there was a guy who loved Porsches that worked for the owner. Many years later I know that is Peter Hardy!

This photo dates back to 2001. I took it parked on my In-laws' lawn. What I didn't know at the time is that air cooled motors are hot and fry the grass. It left a nice dead patch...

Herman is it right now. My daily driver, track vehicle and road trip car. I'm going to talk to Dean about the gearbox synchros, as the change from second to third is getting worse, if rushed. I will continue to play with the car, the next mod will be the Specialist Components kit. I will bring him out on the 13th, although my focus will be on seat time in the Integra. Our next races are at Taupo in February and I want to get up to speed.
Now that I've proven to myself that I can actually sell cars, the way is open to buy more I'm looking forward to time in the 991 GT3 and Boxster RS60 to see whether newer is the way to go. Maybe trade in and out of interesting water pumpers for a few years while I fettle Herman as a side line. As much as I like the idea of an older GT3 I wonder if it has a defined purpose for me. I need to sit down and research models to see where the sweet point is for depreciation and maintenance.

Well the 3.6T sale looks like a bonanza for Herman! Definitely look at getting the gearbox sorted sooner than later. Once its done it will be peace of mind. Looking forward to 13th - praying weather is like it is today!

For a while there I was a clear second to you re having 'invested' in a base air cooled car car now it's a draw with Doug (unwillingly on his part) and Paul has accelerated away to a clear second at the $100k mark. I will drip feed $ into Herman but don't want to go nuts in case 991 GT3 fever has me thinking about a one car strategy. Can't see that happening right now, but you never know. Richard raves about his.

I'm speechless in grief.............
I should have broken my rule and borrowed money to buy a car (I could have convinced myself it was part of the investment portfolio, and that it was a good thing diversifying from property.........err let me know if any of you have used this successfully with the Missus....)
John - 993 owners only take the **** out of 964's as we are insecure and to make up for our inadequacies - with the 964 being a more classic shape, I think the C2 964 will be worth more than a C2 993 within the next 2 years...............

I remember being excited to find we had a 'slightly modified' 993 and a 3.6T in the facility.
Well congratulations John - I know what a big decision it has been - and from a previous C4 owner (twice) to another - just ignore the baiting and see how you perform in damp days . If I was back in the hunt for another 964 I'd not hesitate to go C4 again.
Looking forward to catching up when we get back (so you can talk Kim into s Cayenne as a DD... please!)

Dave driving it around the block
Congratulations and commiserations, John, in equal parts. I realize its like a family member leaving. A bittersweet feeling. I wait with singular curiosity to follow the progress to Herman

Paul. You clearly need to sell your 993 quick smart and buy a 964 C2/4 brother. This 964 thing has eaten you up. I'm more than happy to hold the banner and say I've never parked my car up next to a 964 C2/4 and wondered if I had made the right decision. And if what you reckon about values becomes true then even more resin to own 993 so it can be driven without fear. Otherwise they are just antiques sitting in the shelf.
If you had really wanted the 3.6t it would be in your garage I reckon :-)
John. Richard is loving his GT3 but London isn't the best place for these cars. If you can get you head over the "aircooled is better because it's purer" thing then there is an interesting world if new and used GT3 turbo and Cayman etc options out there. Without doubt the new GT3 is as close to an everything car Porsche have yet produced....till the next one!!
