But, as our cars collectively build their own story and the owners get better at sideways then that would make a great short film.
Don't be hard on your self Dave, you have the Y (read Why) factor.... as in 'why did I start this..?'

Shameless plug - just posted an auction for a set of sport classic wheels. Ideal track day wheels for the 964 crowd

I almost brought one a few years back from a Porsche guy around the Taupo area also has a 356 outlaw and a few other bits and pieces. Think I'll own one at some stage.

It's a bit unforgivable for a Porsche dealership (well company that owns one) should make this mistake confusing a 996 for a 993. It's a good day cajole tho I suspect getting a little tired now. Has sports seats too. I remember when it sold on TM from a Parnell dealer around 2.5 years ago for 112k. Mileage hasn't changed much since then...

Haha, the one car that no one with reasonable eyesight can mistake, unless it's been de-badged. And from the pedantic point of view, at least he can spell GT3, whereas 'sought' not so much.

In a separate topic I'm looking at carpet options. With the exchange rate where it is now a carpet set from Design 911 is bordering on $2,000, landed. I'm getting a sample from Lemans of Silverknit (yes Macca I know Southbound are better quality) at $100 per square meter. Has anyone had carpet work done? I thought I might have a go myself while the gearbox etc is being fixed.

I will resist the respray route although this looks damn good

john I couldn't justify Southbound prices even when the exchange rate was good. I hear good things about silver knit carpets though as an alternative. It's still a bit of a hot rod remember :-)

Yes, although made of quality materials, hopefully. I was reminded of that this morning when Chris T came around to measure up the R for aftermarket seats. Once you get past the fit issue, it still has to look like it belongs in the car.

I'm of course about to go for a bespoke carpet fit out via the Auto Trim guys in Te Awamutu. I fully priced up a set from a US vendor in German square weave as a custom job (the vendors seem to offer only the correct type for the year and square weave is a 356, not a 911 fitment) and it came in at around $1200 US which now translates to ????
The trim shop was happy to start a set from scratch as even a fitted set would need modifying because of the differences that my T has for example around the seat brackets. I don't have a specific price for the carpet job only but the full trim job came in as what I considered good value (I am supplying the leather). As the job unfolds I will get an idea of the value of works for the certain parts of the job. The trim guys are sourcing the squareweave from a co. In Wellington - probably Le Mans. An advantage of a custom set is that I can choose leather edging, leather wear pads etc which is pretty high end but I have more leather than I need. Just sneeking into the shot here is some nice work around the seat mountings. Not sure I'll go that far but these things become possible with a custom set.

For anyone trying to find the stuff, search for SLIVERknit not silverknit
