914's seemingly are quite the fashion. I know of another fellow who has just sold one pcar and is now actively looking for a 914 as well

I suspect few of us truly understand the concept with older cars. Either that or we use it so sparingly that the economics makes sense i.e. take it to Caffeine and Classics or on light road drives and tell everyone how cheap Porsches are to own. Take it to the track and the 'ugly' truth is exposed as a tsunami of costs hit. Looking at Herman, for the sake of my wallet I should have been a bonnet polisher. If only the bonnet didn't have a few lumps.
Eloquently put John and in sound business terms I think everyone can comprehend.

I've looked at so many cars for others over the last 15 years (mostly 993s & 964s) and have always been quite taken back by other peoples idea of "mint", "well maintained and cared for", "no expense has been spared on this car". Almost all have fallen woefully short other than the 1997 993C2 David bought (was basically a new car with around 33,000 km on the clock), Matts/Davids/Dougs 964 and perhaps one other. Presentation of records is another bug bear. It takes 30 minutes to go buy a ring binder with clear pocket sleeves, print off a cover page and a spine label and start filling it with invoices, Geo sheets, wof sheets and imported parts receipts and the like. And lets not talk about Geo. Its a foreign word to most 911 owners and its probable the single most important aspect to the cars handling on the limit!

Bitch over. I feel better now :-)

I got the 993 at 24000kms and 10 years old and it was essentially new. The first owner had it stored underground at Giltraps pretty much as soon as he bought it and all they did for a few years was lube the bores, exercise the shocks and spin the wheels a bit. The service book was hard case; several years of services all saying the same mileage. Hard to believe now but it sat on TM for a while and he had to come down a fair bit to get any interest. Mind you, back then I could have had a X88 964 3.6T for not much more than a hundred. There were quite a few of those, 993C4S' and 993 turbo's coming up for sale regularly and take your pick from a half dozen 3.2 Carrera's - including a bloody clubsport for $65k. ****e...this was only 8 years ago.

I thought you rubbished their articles?

Anyway, you can buy the issue digitally for ~$7NZ... surely an owner of multiple Porsches can afford that?

Yeah I do, but sometimes you need a bit of tabloid crap..........

Need the $7 as a contribution towards mod's and driver ed to keep up with you :-)

How did you get your car down to SITT - did you drive or get your car transported?

Or a long hood for under $30K..............

Or an NZX share portfolio when it was sitting at around 3,500

Or a villa in Mt Eden for $600K (but we don't talk about houses)

Drove down with Steve R and Chris B, transported back from Christchurch with the company Playday recommended... who were fine, but not really equipped to deal with low vehicles and the front end received a few more scratches.

Car flipping - might be a bit rich (even for a one-eyed 993 owner)

Doubt the market will see the car at this value?? (but I hope like hell I'm proven wrong??)

Put an ad up for yours and share in the fun. That's how the Turbo 3.6 ended up in the UK so you never know what could happen.

I remember that conversation with you and Macca... "Let's have a laugh and see if we can influence the market". Yours sold and Jo told Macca "no way" when he got some serious looking interest LOL.

Humm - not sure I can part with it just yet?

Problem is what do I replace it with? (GT3 is very cool but has limited use unless I lift the ride height 30mm and install targa spec suspension).

Selling my Audi too and getting a 997.1 for a daily and building or buying a race car up to $50K would probably be a good option???

Need to see where the bills stop for Chris B as Cayman is very tempting....I do really like these cars.......
