Hey Tim. Welcome on board. That's going to be one rocketship you are creating there. Wgat are we talking - 350 bhp? I assume you are using aftermarket ECU?
Make sure you post pictures on this thread from Blighty so you can keep your kiwi cousins in the loop!

All this talk of projects, hotrodding, and mods, and spending kids' inheritance, I have thought of a nick name for Rennsport Social Club; The Joneses. "Why you going so fast? - Just keeping up with the Joneses".

...any Kiwi Rennlister...well yeah...I'm a London-based Kiwi (been here since 10th July '96...but who's countin') & I'm in the process of modding my '90 944 turbo. Spent 4 years collecting the parts - interrupted by a house restoration & various other things... and hopefully in the next 12 months this baby will come together.
It'll be a 2.5 litre running Wosser pistons & rods, Garrett GTX3071R turbo, Speed Force Racing big-valve N/A head, SFR intake manifold & 70 mmm tb, SFR headers & exhaust system, SFR stage 2 intercooler, Vi-Pec V88 engine management, SFR Stage fuel system & 1000cc injectors, Lindsey Racing Dry Sump system, Elephant Racing monoballs & sphericals, Leda 2-ways with custom springs, Big Blacks with a 33/5 proportioning valve, Tarrett ARBs front & back, Eibach springs (450 lb front/ 350 lb rear), 27mm T-bars, Racers Edge camber plates etc, KEP stage 1 clutch & PP, Spec L/w billet steel flywheel, Guard 50/80 LSD, Lindsey racing engine & Tranny mounts & heaps of bearings & seals!
Wheels are hollow-spoke 993 turbo twists with A048 225/45/18s & 265/35/18s.

Three Wheelin'
Nice project Tim - look fwd to hearing more.
996 gt3 engine will just so major. Its the gearbox that is the issue. much longer wheel base by the time the 996 came along so don't think it will fit. I remember CHarris getting Tuthills to try a 996 box for his viper ST hotrod and it couldn't fit.
fast revving old timer engine best in my view but cost starts ramping up quick. and in this hot rod world I suppose anything goes. Rgruppe and magnus have done a lot to free up the old views about replicas etc. Thats really positive I think

All this talk of older outlaw cars is making me miss my aircooled already, and wonder if I've moved in the right direction...

Hah, busted! I've bought the silver track prepped 6.2. Actually, I jumped the gun a bit signing up as I don't take possession until later today, all going well. I'll post more details once I've got the keys.

Matt. Big congrats. I think you bought the best 6GT3 on the market. Dont expect any of us to be catching you on the track in that!
Jamie. Great article on Giltrap...interesting reading....

Busting to spend money on it but so frustrating getting responses out of the USA and Europe for performance parts. Not least, realistic freight rates.

Quick quiz;
Spent all of last night reading about cat bypass, cup pipe, G pipe and Swan neck.
No obvious consensus but lots of opinions.
Cat bypass and G?
G only?
Cup pipe only?
Anyone have experience here?
Seems like a relatively inexpensive mod.

My 964 has its Cat and secondary muffler intact. It just has the primary muffler bypass. I think it's loud enough with that. In fact bordering on too loud if I was running around Kohi at high revs. If you look somewhere back in this thread I posted a short video of the noise level. Ignore the expensive knocking noise. That's just my cam lobes and rockers having some oil starved fun.

Dave, you just have to suck it up with freight costs e.g. My ducktail is USD 450 in the US. Add USD 295 for FedEx to get it to me. Then I'll have to pay the customs fee and GST on top of all that.
I suggest you ask around first before importing. Some people keep these parts from previous cars.

If not a daily driver go the whole hog because to be honest the real gains will come from doing the headers too even though it will be louder. I'd recommend a full system with heat boxes (if you need heat). Then it's job done.

lol, yeah no kidding. My real problem is watching what the guys in the US and UK are doing though. Most of us are mild compared to them.
