Targa Rotorua is a favourite of mine - it usually rains and we always go well even when we had 2wd. Never had an off or any damage. Not so good for crew though having to service in the rain. Well this year its earlier in May not late June and it was fine the whole time. Maybe lucky I didn't go because my wellington mates had a terrible time.
One off on stage 3 and missed the whole second day repairing and the other out after 3 stages with a hole in the block - not good the engine had just been rebuilt

Ha, busted. Luckily you can't see how dirty it is from that shot! Just got back from picking up a new suit and helmet from Chicane, all I need now is new rear tyres and I'm set for the next outing.

Which suit did you select?

I went with the Alpinestars (2 layer) suit/gloves/boots kit, an Arai GP6 helmet, and a Chicane balaclava.

I thought about 3 layer gear, but this strikes a good price/protection/comfort balance, and if I ever want more protection it sounds like CarbonX underwear is the way to go.

Arai GP6 is a good full face choice. Out of interest what do those run?

Great. That should keep you going all the way through motorsport!

Unfortunately my budget hasn't been more than $299 USD so far on a helmet (HJC full face and Bell Mag open face), given the limited use I give it.

I found this place good source. If I were doing it again Id go for the Stilo open face helmet below ($499). I find my open face more comfortable in summer.

Sean,

Rather than taking 1-2 years to build a wide body hot rod, you should just buy this 76 Carrera 3.0.

Err..........can't say my 76 C3 looks like this one??

Paul. Great car. That's actually good value given the engine alone would probably cost 50k aud to build ground up. Id question its ability to make 400bhp on a 3.8 config but maybe they had a happy dyno. Love the colour and refreshing to see a IROC replica as something a bit different especially down under. Will be a good car for someone. If it were 135k nzd and in NZ Sean would have likely bought it by now!

Bump the compression through the roof and 100 Octane. Aussies love doing this and this is how they make the big hp numbers from what seems impossible (i.e. 270 hp C3's with CIS, when they are 200hp stock). I did a day trip to Aussie to see a guy who had one of these cars.

I was severely temped to buy a racing 2.9 MFI engine for my car. It could be made to run on 98 Octane, but really needed 100 octane. I wimped out due to the logistics when driving to Matamata and realising I couldn't find 98 pump gas, so got worried about ever doing a Targa tour unless I have a follow vehicle with 100 Octane for the tour!

Macca, may I please ask what seats you are running in your car?
I'm interested in trying to retain something of a factory road car look, with the sliding mechanism but looking period correct for my 1990 952 which has a black leather interior.

This has me looking at the Pole Position in leather but they're not cheap (almost twice the price of the Perlon version) & I'm undecided about ABE v FIA.

Those Composite Worx buckets look great & are about half the price of leather PP's but I agree that they're unsuited to late '80's early '90's P-cars & are definitely more at home in an Exige or a stripped out racer. I don't think the Composite Worx seats would be great for long road trips!

Tim
