I get the sense the NZ 993 market is a little over valued and the 964 market under valued when compared to those markets.

A C4 seems to be 10-15% less than comparative C2.
Ive been watching all the markets closely (bit of a habit of mine!).

For NZ (as for UK and USA) its still my belief that a C2 964 is more desirable than a C4 and will command a premium if we are talking like for like comparison specimens. In NZ this translates less as a premium and more as "less days on market". In UK & USA the providence and condition of a 964 can now add or subtract over 70% the value of the car. By that I mean an average 964 C2 may sell for 14k GBP in the UK but a really nice example with some tasty enhancements, low mileage, full documents history and some TLC (rebuilt engine etc) may command up to 22k GBP which as you say is early 993 C2 territory in the UK. A good 993 C2 will still range between 22-30k GBP but again and exceptional example with some tasty modifications may well go into the very late 30k GBP range. All for manual cars of course.

In the USA 993 C2 manual prices have been rising for the last 18 months. They are now comparative to UK prices which are still cheaper than NZ prices by 10-15%.

The number of manual 993 in NZ is very low even compared to 964 manual (less manuals were imported from Asia for the 993 too). I think this has helped keep their values high along with the fact they were the last of the air cooled cars and have a unique look being a blend of traditional and modern cues with a very curvaceous fat *** that just looks the dogs IMHO.

I guess its an acquired taste but apart from the obvious aesthetic difference there is a better rear geo design, slightly more power, extra gear and slightly better overall build quality you do have to questions why a good 993 C2 manual in NZ is now commanding roughly twice the price of a good 964 C2 manual (assuming all else is equal between the two).

But then again is a 993 RS or a 964RS really worth between 3x and 5x the base model cost? I've owned both and NO is the answer! Ib fact with a base 964 C2 (at say 35k) you could make a better car than a 964 RS for an additional 80K of upgrades/improvements. For the 993 it is more costly as the engine displacement in the RS was larger so you need to spend money on getting the power plant enhanced.

Where there isnt a market at all in NZ is in recognizing the added value of selected components, upgrades, enhancements, and options on a good solid providence base car with lowish mileage and FPSH. In the UK and USA cars that have undergone extensive preparation, development and enhancement work (documented) can fetch 50-100% more than those which are stock. In NZ its almost impossible to get a buyer to recognize any of this expense, effort etc.

In the sometime future, when the exchange rate changes and the Pacific Swiss Paeso (NZD) has returned to its normalized position highly fettled manual 964 and 993s will likely find easier and more lucrative homes in the UK or Australia than in NZ, similar to the situation for rarer cars in NZ today.

By the way, go and buy the July Classic Car Magazine when it launches tomorrow morning (shameless plug) and read the 7 page feature article on your very own Rennsport Gruppe Members 993 Hot Rod. Even comes with a very cool pull out A3 poster! Its quite informative...

P.S. Some projects planned on the car in August so will update more on that later..

Thanks Guys. My only disappointment is Rennsport Gruppe wasn't established and our banner available at the time these pictures were taken or else it could could have been good subliminal advertising for the Gruppe LOL!

Also, with the next round of work some of the pictures will now be redundant...but that's the nature of a "project" car afterall!

Hi Sean. I have a bunch of suspension stuff (monoballs, Camber plates etc) but Im reticent to touch the suspension before the NITT for fear of having to start from the beginning again (settings). I have the RS uprights and tie rods which I do wish to install to remove the inherent bump steer under hard straight line braking (HD front straight) so I may just stick with that and a quick realignment of the front wheels for now. There is a RS washer reservoir but that may wait till later along with a new strut brace and RS carpet set for the front trunk. Lastly are some lightweight door cards and the heigo half cage. Nothing significant mechanically, just small projects been building since the last round of work in 2011....the addiction continues...

Yes ok, all good! I have to chat to Steve about that upright conversion. Would be nice to have it for the Targa...
