Indeed these days there will always be something newer and faster. I find it interesting though that manufacturers like BMW feel that the future is petrol sipping hybrid sports cars though. I would have thought the future would be hybrid/electric cars for all the normal ones and the real deal for sports cars. It's odd they feel that their whole range needs to be populated by reducing emissions when they could have exceptions (it's tougher for purely or mainly sports car makers like Ferrari etc). I guess I feel that 90% of cars on the road could be slower these days, 600hp Audi wagons seem a bit pointless to me with absolutely no where to use it.

That said I am part of the problem because you won't catch me buying the base model when there is an option with more power so I guess it's a case of giving the customers what they want even if we are idiots.

Well said. A recent interview with Walter Rohl provides a very interesting perspective. He seems to think the petrol/hybrid route isnt the answer. I feel the industry is now taking us on the inevitable path of process that will in the next 3-5 years remove much of what we have enjoyed in sports car motoring in the past. Much we will not know until its gone, but with the manufacturing step functions there will be no returning within any of our "useable" lifetimes I suspect. Instead of developing lighter manufacturing we have instead loaded up on HP and to do this is in a emissions constrained environment we have resorted to topping up with fuel cells which add weight, are a problem to dispose of, add cost and become redundant quickly. Now we are developing light weight manufacturing to OFFSET the extra weight from hybrids! Weve missed the point with gearbox. Its take our focus form the issue. The issue is loosing organic steering, naturally aspirated engines and keeping things light. But as you say we are the consumers driving the cycle - we want more of everything for less!

Assuming it's as described it looks like a no brainer unless you were hoping to 'steal' it and spend weeks playing cat and mouse with the owner. Meanwhile someone else snaffles it.

Wasn't the 993 designed to fill the back seat requirement?

I've had two 6 ft adults in the back of my turbo. Looked bloody uncomfortable but they were determined!

Looks great, look forward to seeing it in the metal sometime. Am sure you've spent a fair bit of time in it since picking it up.

Default The stealth TM Turbo

Just noticed that this anti-marketed (hey, they don't even have the model in the title) 996 Turbo that has been hanging around is closing again soon:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-839129477.htm

No idea of reserve but if someone here wants it, you may want to have a go. It's getting a bit painful to watch so am going to suggest they title the auction properly next time. I'd buy it but I already have one in the garage...

Reserve is $62k from the last three times it was listed http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Sear...archregion=100

It would tempt me if it wasn't a tipo, same as this one http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-843603455.htm and this one http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-842798864.htm.

Don't be afraid of the tip, it has really grown on me although probably makes the Turbo a less dramatic car (even more so on the 997). The dark blue cab 997 is a better buy than either of the other two 996's IMO.
