Here are some pictures I have from November 2004 before it was imported to NZ in 2005. Weng (former rennlister) owned it and drive it hard (and well) on the tracks in Malaysia for a number of years. Back then it was for the money too tired to contemplate after a report was commissioned, so I passed on it. I don't think its had any loving since...the blue car in WTGN is far better value...

Jason. Did you find out what the issue was with the turbos clutch? I think a chunk of our field are out with mechanical issues (John, Jason, Paul). Its not a cheap hobby!

ok should have recognised the car. It wasn't used that much when owned by expat kiwi and looked after by Jon. It was going to be set up to do Targa but it may have only done 1 then Jon bought it owning it for about 18 months/2 years before selling on to another wellington guy a bit over 12 months ago. Mostly road use with the odd track day thrown in. Jon tidied it up quite a bit but can't speak for its hard earlier life

One 993 GT2 was sold NZ new, it was exported out of NZ though. It was sliver in colour.

We have/had:

8 964 RS's - 4 NZ new, 4 imports
6 993 RS's - 3 NZ new, 3 imports

We had at least 2 Challenge Stradales, one in red that I though was still here? The other one, yellow in colour was written off.

Nik. I think youll find the 993GT2 was Bill Farmers. Im not sure it ever actually made it to NZ as such but it was sold via the NZ dealer as an NZ car and if I recall correctly Bill picked it up in the UK then took it to Germany had Roock do the work on it and put it in the 24hr LeMans in 1996. I think he may have run two european seasons with it then sold it.

Paul. Its tough for sure. For quite a few years Ive averaged 100km a day in the 993 for every day Ive been in the country so when I get back I do make up for lost time. In the meantime all I can say is thank god for the internet (dreaming up new 993 projects and adventures), Rennlist, and magazines!

Yes, I'm realistically looking at another month at least before I'm out there. I've targeted the 8/6 gymkhana at HD as I'm comfortable taking either of my other cars if the 964 is still being rebuilt.

I had heard that two 993 GT2's came to NZ? I cant recall where I heard that though?

Is the race car you are thinking of the car that Greg Murphy raced at Le Mans? If so that was the 1996 Le Mans, and the sliver car above had its last WOF in NZ on 21 August 1997.

Nik. Now its coming back. There were two. The second was delivered in the UK and turned straight into a race car. I dont have my reference materials here but the team was run under Newman sponsorship I believe and was the first ever formal kiwi assault on LeMans if I recall correct. I believe (but still not 100% sure) the 993GT2 in the video was also sent to Europe for preparation to race. Greg Murphy may well have been involved. They ran for two years. I have records of this in some books and literature in NZ...

Ive just been in contact with a man in the know. Four were sold new in NZ, 3 red, 1 yellow. The yellow one was writen off, and two red ones were exported to OZ. One red one still remains in NZ
