Watt,
welcome to NZ as well.
The plan would be to pick up a tourist delivery RHD car out of the UK - get the vat off the new price since its being exported new - then deliver to NZ gst free under the immigration scheme. That way you can spec whatever model you like and it will be even cheaper plus new to boot. Just remember to spec KM speedometer instead of miles.
cheers
Macca you were talking about posting the trip details onto another Board? can you give the details of that. thx

GT38088. Go to the Rennlist Asia Pacific board and you will see the new thread. Its three pages long already and awaiting your input...
Watt. GT38088s suggestion seems a good one in theory but wont work in practice. Porsche main dealers in the UK are unable to access the "personal export scheme" for VAT exemption/refund. This means they cannot sell you a new RHD 911 for export to NZ. Should I say they could see you the car but not provide you with the two important documents you will need namely the VAT refund paperwork and the COE (certificate of compliance for importation compliance). This is because Porsche are fully aware of the arbitrage issue they have created by pricing their products vastly different between markets and use the threat of a dealer loosing their license as a stick to control their channel. There are however third parties that operate in the UK that buy new 911s from dealers then export as third party transactions allowing you access to VAT reduction but they do charge a margin for the activity/service. It still works out far cheaper than buying new in NZ. Of course none of this applies to a second hand purchase outside of the main dealer network where many interdependents are registered to the personal export scheme and you can buy a 3+ year old 911 and export exempt of VAT. FYI only but Ive looked into this late last year in detail and these were my findings.

Probably also worth noting is that a UK dealer will unlikely supply you a new release and popular model such as the new 991TT /GT2 or 991 GT3 as they have limited allocations and tend to service only their best repeat customers with limited production variants. Infact its common for low mileage new release models such as these to change hands up to 12 months after release for a premium above their list price in the UK due to demand exceeding supply...PM me if you want some third party dealer contacts there that will export etc...

interesting, sounds like for a fee both new and used can be done, thats the wheels of commerce! A few years ago I imported a new M3 - walked into Parklane BMW and did the deal then went back and took delivery when it arrived and exported straight to nz. Sounds like rules toughened up since then.

I think the week GBP & Euro has made this a particular issue in the last few years for the manufacturers. Some like Porsche take a much harder line than others...

Macca given your comments on LHD in NZ ( which I generally agree with ) what would be you view on LHD in the more classic shapes - long bonnet pre 74 assuming first class condition. Maybe fully rebuilt top to bottom. There is still the inconvenience in day to day driving but the real market in these cars is mainly LHD anyway?
Of course much easier to convert than later cars ...

I think LHD long hood is fine. I doubt the variance on price is more than 10% for a like to like comparison which is almost practically impossible in today's market with so few good examples. If it were an excellent example Id imagine the difference in value negligible and frankly a savvy "investor" would appreciate the wider global audience whom to sell the car in the future as values rise further (which they will). I live in a LHD country and frequently swap to RHD (NZ, Australia etc) and don't find it off putting. Infact in a pre 996 911 LHD is actually a far better seating position...

Attention 964C4 owners, just posted this in the 964 forum:
So I am in the market for a second hand good conditional Longitudinal Clutch Pack, ie the barrel (964 339 704 01) and all the gubbins that goes in it. So now I understand where the potential in "C4s can have potentially expensive problems with their complex 4WD system." Mine has disintegrated and new replacement is supposed to be in the US$4-5K ballpark. Anyone have one lying around or can steer me to a likely source second hand??
Have asked Steve R but he has nothing to hand although is going to search his contacts for me. Any help appreciated.

Bad luck on the clutch mate. I suppose thats one of the wear items on track days. usd 4-5k even at the current high nzd is v. pricey.
macca the last time I had to shift with my right hand was learning to drive an old formula ford at manfield being instructed by a young greg murphy - thats a long time ago.

Jason. It would seem that track work may accelerate this issue. I understand the same is an accelerated wear issue with LSD on 2WD vehicle. I bought a Porsche Motorsports 4 plate 45/65 LSD and had it fitted to by car two years ago and was surprised to find that its lonegivity under track/ fast road conditions can be as low as 20,000 km. The factory 2 plate option 220 units were even less robust. I do hope you find the parts you need at reasonable cost. Perhaps try a breaker in the UK too.

Have you guys seen the Sport Classic at CCS:

Awsome car, but the questions, would you want to own this over a 997.2 GT3 RS?
