Bum. Did one session tonight and clutch was slipping in third. New clutch and plate about 1000kms ago. What up with that?

No way. Which car is it?

I'd start with the hydraulics. It's highly unlikely to be the pressure plate so soon.

I'm sure that they would've thoroughly checked the master and slave when they did the clutch work but I'd drop it back in to where you had it done in any case. 1000kms isn't enough mileage for it to be on you mate.

I had a similar issue. Assuming its not the hydraulics or ancillaries as Sean mentions then it could well be the same issue I faced towards the end of the Targa.

I Updated to a new factory RS LWFC (original DMFC still had plenty of meat even at 70k km) and a few thousand km later during the Targa as the clutch got hot it started slipping at peak torque RPM (approx 5500 on the N/A 3.6). It started towards the end of day 4 in 5th gear and at first I couldn't figure it out. By the second half of day five I was having to short shift gears to stay out of the 5500 range as it has started to affect 4th and 3rd gears too. At normal around town speeds when not too hot it was fine.

Once the clutch was dropped and opened (after everything else had been eliminated) the cause was evident. The small $40 rubber seal on the base of the spline drive through the bell housing had started weeping due to age and extreme heat. It had weeped gearbox oil onto the clutch surface. When that got hot it was glazing. Overall we had lost only 100-150ml form teh gearbox so it was only a very small leak but it would have got worse and eventually shown up by way of massive slippage and oil on the garage floor.

I was a bit miffed as to why it wasnt replaced when the new clutch pack was installed as my guys know i dont cut corners and would fork for a seal. They said its not a common issue in these cars. But its rubber, 20 years old and being run hard on a 1000km closed stage roads! Eventually these will need replacing in all our cars I guess. Ive attached a picture where the clutch dust shows you the small stain of oil. Cost me almost 2k to drop the clutch and replace with brand new RS clutch disc, new seal, oil and bolt back up!

Anyone doing a clutch Dual mass or otherwise on a 964/994 should definitely ask for this to be replaced and dont take shoulder hunching for an answer...

Hopefully your problem is simpler than this but as I have the T shirt just passing it on....

That's bizarre. My clutch was also done about same mileage ago and last Friday on track I felt same issue - slipping in 3rd. Not consistently but a couple of times over consecutive sessions. Paul then took it out and had no slippage - suggested 'driver error.' I worked shifts a bit more carefully and no issue for rest of the day.

Ghost in the machine? Unfortunately from experience when you feel something in these cars you are usually right first time. I may take some more time to manifest itself. Hopefully not.....

I have a similar problem on Friday. I cannot change easily into 3rd gear from 2nd under extreme corner loading. It may be a shift linkage or motor/transmission mount issue. Its happened on Targa and earlier only in extreme g corners driven hard. Thing is I have RSR tranny mounts, RS engine mounts (all reasonably recent) and a full RS ball joint shifter assembly so cant figure where thats happening. Selector on gearbox probably. Will have it looked at when half cage fitted...

Expensive hobby eh!

I see the price just dropped $5K, you gotta be looking at sub-$70K for this 996.1 GT3???

I thought you guys said these things had bottomed out on price. All the ones advertised, aren't selling and seem to be depreciating...............

Paul. Wasn't it 75k originally? I thought it was....must be mistaken.

Looks like the market is very quiet. I guess if you have to sell you have to meet the market right now...

Looking back at the earlier thread it appears it was 79990. So it has dropped 5k as you say. Given a Mk2 is asking 85 on TM that differential seems more reasonable. No doubt its allot of car for the money.

I helped a mate in the UK buy an ex sing 964RS many years ago. People thought he paid too much. At the time it was about 27k gbp. The went down to the early 20s for a while. He sold it at 49 and its just moved on at 58k.

Id buy that speed yellow 996.1 GT3 that was on TM last year for 75-80k day in and out. Call me a fool but I have made reasonable profit on every Porsche I have ever owned (except for my 993 C2 money pit which is why it will never be sold LOL!).

Hi Paul. No idea. Looks like a lot of work has gone into it however. 49K GBP is probably fair money for what has been done. Its a shame they didn't delete the sunroof and front headlamp washers while they were at it to make it a more authentic replica.

I disagree. Last year the speed yellow 996.1 GT3 sold for around 80K done 45,000 odd kms? That makes this car over priced at $79,995? I wouldnt call that depreciating?
Also I would prefer speed yellow over the blue.

Geepers Nic - I'm just giving a bit of banter mate.

You need to post some pics of the RS2, it's been a few years since I've visited VASK.

Sean. I just love those groundsky pictures. I can look at them for ages. There's nothing better than a 911 caught in action. Makes static images look mundane. I bet you have a regular gander at them stuck in Sing. I know what its like....!

Am I correct in saying you are running 285/18 on the rear? What are your fronts? 235? I ran with 225/285/18s for a number of years but when I fitted the motorsports LSD I felt the rear was a bit over tyred for I reverted to 265 rears (235 fronts weren't available in RE11). Of course I could probably have dialed more out using the ARBs, although Im still finding the perfect fast road set up with the shocks/ARBs (getting close). Rear traction at lease in dry conditions has never seemed to be the issue, its front traction that I have been experimenting with the most
