Absolutely unreal! Neil. I understand why you said now you were going to buy a lotto ticket this week. Buy one for me too. 1800 degrees of rotation and so close to that cement wall before the corner - I think you actually sped up at the end on the off camber corner and grass - hit the gravel pretty hard - hopefully only some patina.....hot damn you are one lucky man!

The 993 has a big advantage over non-mez engined cars - there are A LOT of 996 / gen I 997/cayman/boxers around with problems. I know of a mint 996 that had the bearing rebuild that just melted - a concourse masters winner's car with low miles and not thrashed. 964's were considered problem children for a long time due to maintenance costs. I think they have now moved to a market segment where people buy them as hobby cars and with an expectation of customising or refurbishing them. So the maintenace costs are not longer such a stigma. I am amazed at the 964 colt following that has popped up recently....... The equasion gets tougher for 993's, when you consider Gen II Caymen's are now early $50's. I was talking to a club member on Sunday who just purchased a NZ new Gen II Cayman S, silver over black, 36K's for just over $50K via Conti's. He had the choice of a dark blue one too for similar money. If I was in the market - even I would have to think long and hard.............

Agree with all above. As I say we are driving relics out there now....with soon to be museum grade replacement parts prices....

For serious track work I would take a late model cayman 6spd over a 993 all day. Of course Id want to spend 40k on top on a lovely exe-tc Coilover set with remote resivours, a 997 turbo brake upgrade so lighter chairs a half cage an akrapovic exhaust and a new intake plenum and remap...but you get my drift...

The 996 is slowly looking prettier to many. Time heals all....

I agree with your 996 mk1 comments. It looked a little undramatic when it came out but it has a simple elegance about it now that the 996 mk2 simply misses, as subtle as the differences are. I saw my first one at the factory in '97 when the line had both 993's and 996's going down it and the 996 looked quite flat and ordinary compared to the old stager. When I decided the time was right for my first P purchase, a 993 got the nod. It was that or a 3.2 Carrera because a 964 was somewhere I wasn't going to go purely because I didn't want a (perceived) liability. Over time though the maladies are sorted and their appeal grows. Looking forward to when most 996's have been through the ringer and are sorted with resleeved, re bearinged or whatever they need, then give me a silver manual coupe with boxster red leather on mk1 GT3 rims. Sleeper.

Ralf, thanks for sorting the brakes on BB. I am able to help , just let me know what I can do. You can call me on 0275 336878. The 16 th is on.

I am amazed that the footage is out on the web. Hope it doesn't affect my insurability. Although a case could always be made that I controlled it expertly, if you ask me to be honest, I was a passenger. If you look carefully at the first spin the back comes around so fast with a huge spray of water. The speed of that first spin is amazing. There was no warning and no control from that point on.This is the same spot that caught me last time with no hint on previous laps that traction was a problem.
I was certainly lucky and will not try wet weather tracking again.
I think the 944 race car is the way forward and am seriously looking at options.
Looking forward to the "meeting"in September and having a chat.

Neil, thanks for offering help. We've gone the easy way and let Jono do the brake service. He has all the tool already at HD and price wise it was a no brainer. I'll bring the parts down on Saturday and watch over his shoulder and give him a helping hand if needed.
Looking really forward to the 16th.

It borders on being out of order to publish that without your consent. Mind you I shared it so am part of the problem

I have created videos for Doug, right down to zoomed slow mo but it's only findable if I give the link, which I don't believe is my prerogative. I suppose the fact they haven't shared Chris M or Doug's is because it didn't end as well.

The end of the journey is nigh. I have finished the videos up until our arrival in Christchurch. Ruapuna and pack up to go. I should finish tomorrow night. Bring on the 7th. Hope it's a big screen, with good sound because it's full HD with a soundtrack.

Looks like the Polar Silver 993 doesn't have a sunroof. Pic of roof and no inside switch.

That seems to be a really good deal, Trademe prices are a fair bit higher than that?

I have no reason to not believe the guy.

This car has been for sale for yonks..........

Lowish Km's, silver over black and an S - I can't understand why this car hasn't sold either?? I had a quick walk around it about a week ago - car seems fine at casual observation?? This is a sub $40K car for cash?

I think Macca is right in that there is fickle demand for Pcars at the moment.
