The C8 won't change the minds of some, but it has opened the eyes of many.

I’ve gotta say: I find it hilarious to see criticisms of the Corvette’s weight, size, etc. compared to McLarens which are several times more expensive. We have the $60k performance car bargain of the century being nitpicked because it falls short of $300k supercars. The fact that it is even being discussed in the same sentence as these automotive legends is incredible. A $60k car should be compared to other $60k cars, e.g. the 718 Cayman.

That's gotta' be some kind of record, no? It's great to see such interest in an item non-Porsche related. I bet that Mary and friends are jumping with joy at the (mostly) positive response.
I must confess to taking two hours yesterday to scroll through the combined thread. Great idea, BTW.
Per my avatar, you can see that I am a fan of both brands. I am rooting for the Stingray to be a success, but I am sticking with my Z06 for now.

If success is measured by performance, this is v.1 and after the bugs are ironed out, it'll be a success as well.
I think the biggest success for the C8 will be reintroducing the brand to a whole new demographic and lowering the average age of owners.

The most interesting part of this video is not the cliche'd 60's white male with the Southern drawl explaining how to store the hood [sic] in the trunk, but the thought of just how the 20-something "influencer" will be influencing and driving a whole new demographic/generation into the Corvette family.
The C8 won't change the minds of some, but it has opened the eyes of many.

Wait a minute...let's get the stereotype right . An older white Southerner would be in a C3 or maybe a C4.with Cragar wheels on it. His poorer relations would be parked around the trailer in their late '70's Camaro or Fox body Mustang
A C5 through C6 (maybe even 7) would have an older Guido from Jersey talking with a thick accent saying "fvck" every other word while stroking his gold chains and rubbing his slicked back greasy hair

First of all most of us are car guys here, many have tracked alongside the other brand, many like you and I have owned both brands, and most others have at least cross shopped both brands.
Plus I'd bet that if the 911 switched to a front engine architecture it would elicit a similar response in other brand car forums.
I don't know how well this car is going to sell (personally I find the design somewhat clumsy and ungainly in its base form), it will really come down to how many older customers they lose vs how many younger customers they gain. It will also depend on whether they really got it together with this new architecture cause nothin will destroy sales faster than a car that every day you hear of another issue and/or recall. What I do know is that if they do get it together it will eat away at Porsche sales, and that's another reason for the interest here. Porsche has been raising their prices very aggressively across their product line and the base 992 is now $113k. I don't know where the threshold is where a critical mass of potential customers that can afford both cars says 'I prefer the brand image/association and superior build quality but not at that much of a price difference' ... undoubtably if the C8 performs well on the road and isn't plagued with issues it will negatively affect a 911 sales market which is already softening on its own.

And Porsches do retain their value? Apparently most people here think they do, but as a many decade owner of 911s, I sure as hell don't. Granted that if you keep your 911 in pristine condition, and are willing to go through the time, hassle, and expense of a private sale, you can get a decent price. But try to sell your low mileage 911 to a dealer. For example take your 2016 $120K 991 that has never been driven in the rain and has fewer than 20K miles on the odometer, and see what a Porsche dealer is willing to pay for your car. I hate going through the hassle of selling my 911s, but given the ridiculously low offers I get from Porsche dealers, I have no choice.
The only exception would be Porsche GT cars, especially the GT2RS or even a GT3RS. If by some magic you were able to buy these cars at MSRP, the dealer will give you a great price but these cars are the exception to the rule. Any way that's been my experience, but maybe the Porsche dealers in my area are the exception to the rule and other dealers are far more generous.

As I said earlier in the thread a couple of nice I think 2016s 911s were available at my dealer. He said lets talk and the numbers looked very good. That tells you what the trade in price was. I didn't bite as I had a new Cayenne on order for Mrs TR. Sport car sales are soft and used prices are down - considerably. Unless they are GT cars. Walk in to a Lambo dealer and prove it to yourself if you want.
And . . . I want to see this Corvette. And I soon will.
I can't help but be amused at the amount of micro cut criticisms this Corvette has.
I was just a kid racing on 2 strokes. I remember when Honda brought out the Elsinore. Now they had gone from 4 stroke to 2. Snickers and giggles . . . then of course they shot to the front and the starting gate was full of them. I've seen it since - the smaller and smaller the cuts protest - the closer it is to waxing some tails.

Funny. I was racing a Husky when the Elsinores came out. Deffinitely changed the game.

Plenty of people are finding the now long running merged thread just fine. Not very well "hidden" if you ask me. Hiding this thread would have been moving it to Off Topic where unpaid members do not have access to.
For the record I grew up on the Corvette side of the car world and I still frequent it from time to time. This has nothing to do with "hiding" Corvette chatter from the Porsche car masses.
Of all the things to get one undies in a knot about, this is pretty hilarious.
