Why anyone is rushing to buy this car is beyond me.

Even a regular gen switch has issues (heck GM never got the current gen full size SUV right and those came out five years ago), never mind a brand new architecture.

Plus they'll be heavily discounted within a year.

OTOH there may be some small dealer that has just a couple of C8 allocations that may be selling to anyone who is willing to pay a significant ADM. But the big boys who are selling at MSRP have lots and lots of buyers in queue.
I think he meant he may be an early buyer. Not (literally) one of the first ones made.

I've been in a number of base Boxster and 996/997's with that dab gray bland interior that had me scratching my head wondering how this very much Honda Civic-esk interior was somehow superior to any Corvette.

Even my friends 1996 Corvette has a nicer interior than some base model Porsche's I've seen. Yes I went there, comparing the C4 to any Porsche. The line for pitchforks forms on the left, torches on the right.

My neighbor just picked up a 2019 Z28, no hard plastic to be found and deviated stitching all over the place.

I know it’s not the same car but think where ford is pricing their mid engine car, and it won’t perform much better, if at all, than a C8 Z06/ZR1.
Valid points.

It's a double edged sword though, with the prices of 911's increasing. It helps to preserve the values on the outgoing models, which translates in to less depreciation for the owners. I don't care how cheap a car is to buy, what I care about is how much value it loses in the time I would own it, and Vette's always loose a lot of value.

Have driven the C7 equipped with the Z51 package and Magnetic Ride Control suspension at Sonoma Raceway, the car handled well for a FR car, but I didn't like the driving dynamics of the car. Not been able to put the power down early as in a midengine car, having to trail brake to get the car to rotate. I also looked at the C7 Z06 when it came out, and that bulging hood was a non starter for me.

Have been on the list for a PDK GT4/GT4RS for close to 4 years, with the C8 specs been released last week and the pricepoint that it is been offered at I am seriously considering it over the GT4. I suspect that the C8 Z51 version with MRC will be a 1:35-1:36 car at Laguna given that the weight is only about 100lbs more compared to the F458 which had slightly more horsepower but is down relatively in torque, similar MR based active suspension double wishbone F/R vs double wishbone/multi link, similar concept e-diffs, etc.

The car been mass produced vehicle should result in lower cost for consumables like pads/rotors/wheels/tires. I will wait for the Corvette Tour (if it happens) or just go to Spring Mountain in NV and beat up on a C8 for a day or two to see if I enjoy the car at the track.
I can't argue your thinking. It should make a good track car and as you said, consumables will be relative inexpensive.

BIG question from me is does that new interior actually FEEL great when you are in it. Because again, 992 interior doesn't feel that great.
True, the qualtiy has increased. We will see if they continued the trend. If they did, it will be hard to pass it up much longer

It only takes a couple of problems and a small amount of complaining to get a 100K mile warranty out of GM

There are zero factory discounts on the plentiful and dated outgoing C7 GS, Z06 or ZR1s.. Maybe corporate is reading the haters of the C8 on the 'Vette forums thinking "You want a front engine you're gonna have to pay for it!"

Totally. The 986 was designed to save every last pfennig, and it showed. I owned a 968 at the time, and was more or less horrified at what they'd done. But in Porsche's defense it was a matter of survival, having just spent a few years trying to peddle an expensive four-banger in a market crowded with interesting offerings from Japan and Europe.

Today their survival is hardly threatened, but the lower-spec Porsche interiors are still nothing to brag about. It costs a small fortune to make these cars look genuinely classy inside... and even then you still have to worry about multi-thousand-dollar repair bills for door panels, headliners, headlight delamination, and whatever other time bombs Easter eggs the bean counters at Porsche have left for us to find.

The big problems with the C7 weren't related to the interior quality or the engine placement. What kept it from being taken seriously was its crappy slushbox transmission and Conestoga-era suspension. The new mid-engine architecture is a big step forward, but the real news is that the core mechanical shortcomings have been fixed.

It still looks like something a high-school kid doodled while sitting in detention for drawing naked girls on his locker the day before. But the important thing is that they now have a credible sports/GT platform for the very first time in the history of the marque. That is the game-changer. The MR engine layout and the strong value proposition are just icing on the cake.

Pretty exciting stuff IMO. I would be mailing out resumes right about now, if I worked on the 718 team.

If someone wants a C7 they would get that much discount for sure, and even more if buying with the GM Employee Discount. I used that when I bought the C7 I had in the past, along with incentives on top of that; my Uncle retired from GM so that is how I got it.

Does no one click on links?

C7s are currently discounted $12-14k and it will be more as the year draws to a close.

Depends on the model..They actually run around 15% or so.

I just ordered a new C7 on 7/16 (last day you could custom order a C7) and my discount for C7 2LT Z51 7M was around 14%
