I'm sure this post will go over like a lead balloon for some but that's OK - I love rustling the GT3 hype generator feathers whenever possible since critical discussion is certainly disliked around here. As for missing out on joy - there are lots of great cars out there to experience, many of which haven't been as inflated, and by the way, it really is just a car. One isn't missing out on life just because they don't own a GT3, although i can see how some in this forum would genuinely think that. Now let's carry on with the spectacle and keep that 997 GT3 hype spigot flowing!
The question is where do you find a modern classic manual NA supercar experience for 'cheap'?
  • Manual V10 Gallardo are 200k+
  • Manual V8 F430 are 200k+
  • Manual V10 Audi R8 150k+
  • Manual 997 GT3 120k+
  • Manual 997 GT3RS 200k+
Given a similar experience is gonna cost similar money for other brands. That does point to an accurate valuation in the current market. I think value in this segment can be found in a R8 V8 gated manual.(still can be found for <100k) If you don't want a car in this segment(modern classic manual NA supercar)buy the 991.1 GT3 it's the most value GT3 currently. Another option is a 987 GT4. I was cross shopping that when I was looking at 997s. That's a valve buy as well and shares a lot of similar traits to the 997.

Further more I say all this as someone who does 10 track days a year on their RS and would appreciate a value decrease as it would lower my insurance premiums for track days. I'm not someone trying to make a profit off owning a 997 RS. I am someone experiencing their dream car and trying to maximize my enjoyment.

I don't speculate on valuations as that is completely irrelevant to me. I don't know if these GT3s are going up, down, or sideway, nor do I care. I also agree with you that not having a GT3 is certainly not missing out on life. Many other cars, hobbies, and more importantly, family and friends, to bring us true joy. However, if it is a GT3 you want and you enjoy the driving experience it provides, then I think we can agree that by not purchasing one you are missing out on that particular joy. That is not to say you should pay any price for admission. We each have our values and our budgets. I came from nothing and struggled much of my life. I'm not here to judge anyone or tell anyone what's right for them. But my comment was specifically regarding people who are both a) actively looking to buy a GT3, thus by their actions acknowledging that it is something they truly want, and b) proclaiming that it's an overhyped and overpriced car. That just strikes me as contradictory and self-serving. It's one thing to come here, like so many do, and make an honest comment like "man, this sucks, I really want a GT3 but the market got away from me" and another to come here and continually comment on how every asking and sale price is above what this "overhyped" GT3 is worth, while simultaneously posting a GT3 wanted ad in another thread.

Based on this wanted ad, I'm guessing he has neither. https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1324624

Car was at Canepa a year or so ago and I believe it had a roll bar along with some other mods. BTW the COA is currently listed for sale on eBay.

@RapidGT you never cease to amaze me. Not only do you know of every GT car ever listed for sale, but now you have a COA auction database as well.

Right? You would think that these are the members should be granted with free Rennlist memberships. Those who give value to this site. Ya know Rennlist could make a program where contributing members get free annual memberships. Every year ya gotta make the quota to get your annual dues waived.

Yes, this thread alone adds a ton of value for prospective buyers, one of the most important steps entering ownership.

For anyone interested in buying, may want to reach out to Porsche Beachwood as they were the ones that sold the car originally. While they may not have all service records dating back to new (they delete them after a certain amount of time), I know I was able to get warranty records for my car from them.

Very high ask for this particular car. For $400k maybe they’ll throw in the COA listed on eBay for $75 for free.

This is me! I think the market got away from me by the time I could afford one.

I would vastly prefer one with 50k+ miles though. I want to put miles on it without worrying about the value. Not too many of those out there though.

I’m considering that red 2008 that was posted a while back. If it weren’t for the 3 (!!) accidents that would be my perfect car. I feel like that car is priced 10-15 too high but I doubt that dealership will sell it for that little.
