[QUOTE=fayraree;18581651]welp, I slept on it (aka wife threatened castration) and I passed at the $100k delta that was offered to me lol

Good choice. I may be reading between the lines here, but if a wife is weighing in that usually means the financial side might not be the most comfortable move for you, especially in a case where you said the car already "ticked your boxes". Not that you need my input, but I applaud your rationale-- its good to wait until that delta is an amount of money that would not invoke the "honey what do you think about this?" scenario. I am older but vividly recall that in the early days of our long marriage, we had an agreement that spending more than $10K by either of us in our marriage required a "discussion". That's healthy. And as we grew older and finances changed, our "hall pass" level of spending changed. Six months into my latest Porsche (the RS) and an Audi purchase a month later (another RS), my wife has never asked but only laughingly repeated a comment by one of her bookclub friends whose husband had told her what the P car was worth. I respect you for allowing your bride to weigh in. Its just a car and you appear relatively young to me so there will be a lot more down the road. Be happy with your GT because its an awesome ride that 95% of the planet would consider the top of the heap in their auto collection.

once again this forum delivers with extremely thoughtful and caring fellow enthusiasts. Brother, this was one of the nicest responses I’ve read on this forum, thank you! I learned my threshold the hard way, having bought my first 911 when I saw an opportunity on an auction site with 10 mins to go! To quote my favorite movie character, “if you think, you’re dead.” Needless to say, my wife had a surprise waiting when she got home from work, and verbal communication was cut off for 3 days (not necessarily the worst thing, lol!). That was only $65k. $100k now would have been digging my own grave, lol. I don’t think I need to convince myself that hard to wait because the GT3 is still in its honeymoon phase and we have so many things to do, places to go!

Yea good advice. In 2000 at the age of 41 I almost bought a 1997 NSX, but instead bought a Ferrari F355, and went down that road a few more times with some crazy cars. Had I simply stayed with the NSX and invested the difference, I would have a million more in the bank. And the NSX is a bad-*** car.

Now I'm 64 and I've been very lucky business-wise so I can afford to move up, and was determined to get a white/gold RS at some point. But when I open the door to my garage and just take it in, a GT3 satisfies me very well. It really suits me, and I know its condition. If you are in the honeymoon phase, it MAY end up being the perfect long-term marriage for you, but time will tell.

Upscale, would you rather have the money in the bank or have lived and enjoyed the experience of the various F-cars?

I am not being callous, really curious as I have had that thought more than once, saving everything versus splurging now and then….

I am very happy I have experienced and continue to enjoy the GT3 and other great cars from Porsche. My kids and I have bonded going on drives and to shows over the years and it has built memories. Now that my youngest is 16, he is getting more into cars like I always was and that’s been fun.

As for switching up to an RS from a GT3, at todays prices I would have a hard time doing it. I got mine from Mike (through Doug) at the right time and have 20K mikes on it and can’t wait for the snow season to be over.

Finance circumstances change, and having a discussion with your spouse when you want to pull the trigger on a six figure purchase is healthy. My wife gave me a hard time when I got my GT3 even after extensive discussion. It was nerve wrecking for me too, since its literally was the most expensive car either of us have purchased by a factor of 3+. But ya know what? Once the money left my bank account I really don't miss it, the driving and ownership experience, even just looking at it covered up in the garage was well worth the price. Honestly even just seeing it parked covered up in my garage in the evening was a treat - a constant reminder of how fortunate I was to be able to afford something this awesome before I turned 40. It was just a far more physical and visceral reminder in ways a bigger bank account balance never could do.

If you completely ignore the long game and look at the last few years of chaos. The NASDAQ and the GT3 track fairly close at 40%-45% from 2020 to the peak.

But my back of the hand math says the correction on GT3 from peak to today is about 12% and the market is closer to 30%… so which was more stable during a correction?

This day and age sentiment can’t be ignored when placing your $ and there is very little that could move the 997 gt3 off of its pedestal imo.

So I would have no problem placing this car in my diversified portfolio if I thought of it as an investment… but since I under insure it… put who knows how much $ into it, put miles on it…take it on the track and generally drive like it’s my last day on earth I would recommend getting the ‘value’ of it out of your head, easier said than done lol.

I agree. When i bought my first .1 GT3 last year, i knew it was a bit inflated but i could afford it at the time and the worst case scenario was it being worth slightly less. I thought about the risk of them either continuing to go up in value or my future financial situation or priorities shifting to where it doesn't make sense to purchase the car. For that reason, i say buy when you can afford it rather than waiting for market swings.

Seems like it’s been awhile since a Aqua Blue .2 RS with White Gold contrast has come up for sale on the open market. The last one I remember coming up for sale was in 2019 and I’ve been watching the market consistently for years. The car had 5k miles and good options that was listed at $205k. At the time the price was high and the car sat for several months. Here’s a listing of the car when at Porsche North Houston in 2017 basically same mileage and condition as it was a couple years later.

That car was bought from private collection in So California via a broker for $235k in 10/21. It was brokered to Isringhausen for an undisclosed delta. They will sell it for $650k plus, if at all. At the time of the acquisition it had 5500 miles on it and a completely new PPF, tires and fluids.

You can see my post back when it was with PNH. I had a white with white gold 2011 GR3 RS that I bought from from a year before. They didn't offer me as much on a trade in as I paid for the car so I passed. Boy, was I stupid!!!!

I ran into Geoff Isringhausen Jr. at the Gooding and Company auction in Monterey and he said that they acquired another Aqua Blue/White Gold .2 RS this one with only 1k miles for their personal collection. They were unsure if they were gonna sell the one with 5k miles which turned out to be the car above.
